North Park Vision:
We provide a safe environment to encourage, empower and educate, every child, every day!
Thank you to each of you for participating with us at Parent Teacher Conferences! We appreciate the partnership that we enjoy with each of our families!
PBS
PBS is a positive support system for our school....We praise children ALL the time and rewards are frequent! We use Spartan Bucks, assembly awards, cash ins for items they choose to be rewarded with.
There are of course redirects when behaviors are not what we expect, but they are communicated in a positive way to promote the expected outcome!
We have teams in place to help problem solve for students and give them the specific supports they need to be successful!
If you have questions, please call us or directly communicate with your child's teacher! We love to share all of the great things we do as a team to support growth and success!
LIbrary News
This month in computers we continued to practice keyboarding. I also brought in my microscope, and kids had a chance to look at various things in the room, including their own hands.
Remember to have your children return their library books on checkout day so they may continue to bring books home. Reading to your child is a great way to help them in school!
Title I Helpful Hints
Here are six tips to help improve reading comprehension taken from Scholastic website.
1. Have your child read aloud: This forces them to go slower, which gives them more time to think about what they read.
2. Provide the right kinds of books: Make sure your child gets lots of practice reading books that aren't too hard. They should recognize at least 90 percent of the words without any help. Stopping any more interferes with the meaning.
3. Reread to build fluency: Your child needs to read quickly and smoothly. Rereading familiar books gives your child practice at decoding words quickly so they become fluent.
4. Talk to the teacher: If your child is struggling with reading comprehension, the teacher may be able to provide extra support for you at home.
5. Supplement class reading: If your child's class is studying a topic, look for books or magazines on that topic or a topic of interest.
Talk about what they are reading: This helps them remember and think about books. Ask questions before, during, and after to encourage reading comprehension

Valet & Pick up
- Make sure that you call before 3:30 if you need to make a change is how your child is leaving school, to provide us with ample time to get them in the right spot!
- If someone is coming to pick them up or pick them up in valet, they MUST have the valet tag or pickup card. Please send them in advance to the office to get one! This is a safety measure for all students
- Please make sure when you call you distinguish between pick up,which is face to face at the SW corner of the building or valet, in which they stay in their vehicle! Thank you!
We appreciate all of your support in making sure your child is dismissed from school in a safe manor for all!

District Assessments
Starting this year, your student will be taking a reading and math assessment called iReady. We’ll be using this assessment to monitor your student’s academic growth.
During our fall parent-teacher conferences, we provided more information, including your student’s scores from the first part of the quarter. We’ll share additional academic growth as your student progresses through the year. This interactive monitoring tool will help us give your student more individualized learning.
