Transition Information for Rising 6th Graders
Advanced Art
Advanced Art is a program for visual arts students who demonstrate an extraordinary interest in the development of their skill and creativity. The class is designed for artistically talented students who strive for more depth of knowledge and have a willingness to be challenged.
Our art teachers will be reviewing responses to determine who should be placed in Advanced Art. They will use the criteria on the form for placement. Please note that the responses will drive the placement process. However, as the number of spots in the class fill, we will use a lottery system to determine who will get in the course. All students who are selected for Advanced Art will be scheduled in it and will drop Multimedia Explorations. The art teachers will use the email listed on the form to communicate the result of your child’s placement.
May 3, 2021, I will share the form you can complete if you want your child to be considered for Advanced Art. If you have questions about Advanced Art, please contact Amy Combs, art teacher, combsa@sycamoreschools.org.
Information about Music Classes for 21-22
We plan on allowing students to take two music classes again next year. During the week of May 3, the music teachers will be visiting all classes who took music 1st semester to discuss the ability to take two music classes with students. Additionally, they will discuss this with the music classes they currently have. Please talk to your child. If they would like to take an additional music class, please contact their current music teacher to ensure we properly schedule students into classes.
Any rising 5th grader who is in General Choir will be scheduling into Choir for next school year. If you would like your child to take General Music instead, please email Mrs. Kristin Anderson andersonk@sycamoreschools.org.

Bus Walk Bike to School Day 2021!
Greene is very excited to present the 2nd BWB Day, this year held in conjunction with our annual Walk-A-Thon. On Friday, May 14, Greene students and teachers will reduce their carbon footprint and promote a healthy lifestyle by busing, walking, and biking to school. There will be three ways to participate:

- Students may walk or bike directly from home
- Students may walk or bike from 3 designated meeting spots, each ~1 mile from school
Virtual students and students who are normally dropped off can walk or bike from a meeting spot. Virtual students can be picked up after their Walk-A-Thon (details TBA soon).
Safety will be our highest priority!

PBIS Parent Survey
Note from Pupil Services - Preventive Education Initiative
Dear Families,
Recently we shared information with you regarding an exciting grant awarded to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Sycamore Community Schools as a part of Governor Dewine’s K-12 Prevention Education Initiative. We have started the engagement process with the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s Adapt for Life team, and we are in need of your feedback to assist our student, staff, and family planning. Completing this anonymous 5 question survey will inform our process and assist us in developing strong programming for our future.
In April, we anticipate hosting virtual parent information sessions about the Adapt for Life program and our grant partnership. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming weeks and months.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Lisa Zelvy, Pupil Services Supervisor, at zelvyl@sycamoreschools.org
