Prestwick LEarns: At Home Learning Continues through end of the school year
A recent Facebook memory reminded me that 6 years ago we opened the doors to LEISD's only K-8 campus. We did so with GREAT PRIDE! The energy was in the air and everything we did was a GRAND adventure.
We have had a final determination that we will not return to the building with students for the remainder of this year. In our last year as a K-8 we are saddened to not end this together! However, we are committed to find joy, create memories and love on our community during this challenging time.
5th and 8th grade parents: We are exploring ways to safely accomplish our end of year traditions as we launch your kiddos into their future and wrap up their last year at Prestwick STEM Academy! (see the link for 8th grade baby pictures below - spread the word)
We acknowledge that there are many "what ifs" that district leadership will work to find the answers to these. As we get them we will share them with you. Thanks for your patience!
We need our families to know that our staff is continuing to plan quality activities, grade work and provide feedback as well as assist students. Learning is our priority! LEISD learning plan does not include whole group teach time as that does not allow the greatest access for all learners. However, do not confuse that to mean that parents/students have to learn on their own. We are using a mixed approach to include:
- Embedded resources and virtual teach pieces in lesson plans
- Check in opportunities and access (via zoom, flipped videos and phone calls when needed) - please reach out to teachers if you need to
- Authentic feedback (students will get grades for the 4th nine weeks)
Stay plugged as we will keep you informed and supported. We will be providing some "Coffee with the Principal" opportunities for families to get information and be EQUIPPED and EMPOWERED!
Thank you all for your positivity and commitment as well!

Virtual Pre-K & Kindergarten Roundup
Due to the coronavirus, COVID-19, Little Elm ISD is not able to host an in-person event at campuses for Pre-K and Kindergarten Roundup. Instead, the District will hold pre-registration online from Friday, April 17-Friday, May 22. Parents or guardians of those entering Pre-K and Kindergartners for the 2020-2021 school year will need to complete the pre-registration form. The District will take it from there!
Don’t know if your child qualifies? The state has guidelines for eligibility. We have made it easy for you to determine if your child meets those eligibility requirements. Take the quiz to find out!Student Engagement for the week of 20th!!
Staff Spotlight
Our spotlight this week is on one of our math teachers at Prestwick, Mrs. Pimentel. She is currently teaching math to our 6th and 8th grade Lobos. Here is what Mrs. Pimentel has to say, “I am so happy to be at Prestwick STEM Academy. I was born in Springfield, MO, then moved to Lake Dallas, TX when I was in grade school. I enjoy teaching math and showing students the different ways to do certain math problems. I also enjoy showing students where math is used in their everyday life. Some of my hobbies are that I like to do arts and craft, I enjoy ice skating, I like spending time with my children and I enjoy the holidays, the 4th of July is my favorite!”

Need to Speak To A Counselor??
Elementary Students - please check in with the counselor to let her know how you're doing!
Technology Issue??
Do you need internet while we are e-learning?
We recognize students have different levels of support and instructional resources at home. It is our intention to provide as many opportunities to ensure our At-Home learning assignments will help a student’s overall Spring Semester grade, not hurt it.
The District has worked to compile interim grading guidelines for the 4th nine-week grading period. The following guidelines apply for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, regardless of when we return.
Meal Program Continues
We at Little Elm ISD continue to support each other as a community, and right now, we must work together even more to fight COVID-19. As we continue to provide meals to our families, we have to do it in a way that reduces exposure and risk to the staff, parents, and students.
We are distributing meals one day a week on Mondays between 12-1:30 at the following locations:
- Brent Elementary
- Chavez Elementary
- Hackberry Elementary
- Oak Point Elementary
- Lakeside Middle School
- Hilltown Neighborhood at Post Oak and Cottonwood bus stop
Meal distribution will continue to be a “Grab and Go” set up. One person will exit the vehicle and grab one bag that holds five breakfasts and one bag that holds five lunches for the students who need meals. People who walk to a location should keep their distance from each other while grabbing their meals.
Staff will be on-hand monitoring and will maintain a six-foot space between everyone who is present.
Children no longer are required to be present to receive the meal, however, parents will need to bring one of the following documents to receive a meal:
- Official Letter/email from school listing children enrolled
- Individual student report cards
- Attendance record from parent portal of school website
- Birth certificate for children not in school
- Student ID cards
The safety of our community is our number one priority. Based on the guidance from health experts, we feel this is a safer way to continue meal service to our families.
