Our new program date will be Thursday, March 21. The programs will stat at 9:00, 1:15, and at 6:30 in the evening. If you are not able to attend, we will also have a You Tube link available for you if our technology works as expected. Please remember that our doors will remain locked until 30 minutes prior to show time.
The theme of the program is going to be "Beach Party" so break out the zinc oxide and mark your calendars. We are going to be having a great time together.
Read Across America Week
In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday (March 2) and Read Across America, we will be having a spirit week to celebrate reading! Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading with the theme: Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. At Jasper Elementary, our focus this year is celebrating our favorite book characters. Each classroom has chosen their favorite book character and is conducting a variety of activities focusing on that character or book series.

New Check-in for ALL Visitors
As security remains our top priority at GJCS, we will be implementing a new visitor management system in each of our schools. This new system will require a few changes for all visitors. Please see below for details regarding this change.
- Each visitor will be required to scan their driver's license before entering the building.
- If you do not have your driver's license the office will manually add you to our system using your first name, last name, and birthdate.
- When a driver's license is scanned or your information is added, our new system will be scanning the National Sex-Offender Check to ensure you are safe to enter our building.
- Once you are admitted by our system, your photo will be taken and a badge will print for you to wear at all times while in the building.
We appreciate your understanding of these new procedures as we work to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Substitutes Needed
Short on Time, But Long on Caring
Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools are building their substitute teacher lists. Even if you have one or two days per week available, you can help students by being included on our substitute list. You can choose which days you work and which days you don’t work. Knowing that you can balance your active lifestyle and still contribute to the development of our youth. If you would like to get the process started, contact April Hopf at the GJCS central office by calling 812-482-1801. Help us keep the “Great” in Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools.
I Don't Have Any Homework!
Never ask your child if he/she has homework again. Instead just ask, "What do you have for homework other than reading and Rocket Math?"
We are asking each child to complete a session of Rocket Math daily as homework. This can be accessed on home computers, tablets, and cell phones. We encourage you to take an active interest in the progress of your child on the program by asking questions such as:
- What level are you on?
- How far did you get tonight?
- How close are you to winning a certificate?
- How close are you to getting a brag tag?
Also, every night your child will be assigned fifteen minutes of reading engagement. We realize that many children have varying abilities and focus challenges so we encourage you to try some of the following strategies to engage your child in reading:
- Child reads aloud to a sibling, stuffed animal, or pet.
- Child reads aloud to a parent.
- Child reads chorally with the parent to build pace and fluency.
- Child and parent take turns reading.
- Parent reads to a child and discuss what is read.
We hope that this answers the age old question, "Do you have any homework?", once and for all. We also hope that this helps to build a common expectation between home and school for children will embrace as doubly important.
Volunteer/Background Checks
If you would be interested in volunteering or being a chaperone on a field trip, we must have a background check on file. By clicking on the link below, you will be able to fill out a background check. These will last for 5 years or while your child is at JES. It does take some time to process these, so start early so you are able to volunteer or chaperone.
When it comes to volunteers, each classroom is different on the number of volunteers needed. Each classroom teacher will be communicating if they are needing volunteers to help in the classrooms. When it comes to chaperones on field trips, it will be up to each grade level and classroom teacher as to how many chaperones are allowed to follow the bus. Some of the places we take trips to limit the number of chaperones we are allowed to take.

WILDCAT CORNER
Mrs. Mehringer - Business Teacher at JHS wants to introduce the Wildcat Corner to the GJCS staff and students -
Wildcat Corner is a business simulation that takes place in the management capstone class at Jasper High School.
Students in this class are responsible for all aspects of this student run business.
We are not just selling apparel items, we are creating them. We have a heat press and DTF (direct to fabric) screen printed transfers that we are using to create your apparel pieces. We are sourcing out our embroidery to Impressions Printing, but everything else is ordered and created by our staff.
This really is a great opportunity to support your fellow students.
As an FYI, profits from the Wildcat Corner business go to Business Professionals of America.
