Dr. Isett's Weekly Message
Week of April 8th, 2024
Dear Colts Families,
I hope you've had a week filled with fun and relaxation spent with your loved ones. Thank you to all the families who joined us for our recent Open House event! It was a resounding success, and we were thrilled to see so many familiar and new faces exploring our school and celebrating the achievements of our Colts. A special shoutout goes to our dedicated teachers who went above and beyond to showcase the outstanding work our students have been doing throughout the year. We 💚 our Colts Staff! Speaking of dedicated teachers, a huge congratulations to Mrs. Ilona Warner who was named the 2024 Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Advisor of the Year! Her commitment to our students and school community are truly commendable.
I am also delighted to congratulate the students who earned a ticket for zero tardies during the second semester! Over 500 Colts received well-deserved recognition and popsicles on Friday, March 29th!
Looking ahead, I want to inform you about an important upcoming event. On Tuesday, April 9th, we will be conducting a lockdown drill during a passing period. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and preparedness of our staff, faculty, and students in the event of an emergency. Rest assured, the administrative team will promptly notify you via email and text message once the drill has been completed. Thank you, Colts families for your ongoing support and for emphasizing the importance of taking these drills seriously when discussing them with your students.
Have a great week!
Warm regards,
Eva Isett, Ed. D.
Principal
Solar Eclipse Safety
Safety Tips and Information
On Monday, April 8, there will be a solar eclipse that will be visible across many parts of the United States.
While our community is not in the direct path of totality for the eclipse, we will experience some of its visual effects. This will occur from approximately 11:27 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.and last for roughly 3-4 minutes.
Many of our teachers may be using the event as a learning opportunity for our students throughout the day, including the time when the eclipse is occurring.
In anticipation of the eclipse, we would like to share a few important safety tips:
Do not look directly at the eclipse, unless you have eclipse glasses that meet ISO 12312-2:2015 standards. Regular sunglasses are not safe to use.
Use proper solar filters on cameras and binoculars. Avoid the use of homemade filters or any other substitute for eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers.
If you don't have eclipse glasses, consider using indirect viewing methods (such as a pinhole projector) to safely observe the eclipse.
Counseling Focus: April
During April our students focus on social awareness by practicing community service and spending time learning about and celebrating Earth Day. Here is a calendar of simple actions to take everyday that can improve our community and earth!
