NHHS CC News
January 1-5, 2024
Greetings NHHS Community,
I pray everyone had a great weekend. The weeks are fast approaching, and soon, it will be Spring. I want to address three critical things these last few months in school.
One is the safety of our students.
- Safety: too many of our students find creative ways to get vapes in the school. Let's work together to discuss the cons of vaping and or other harmful substances.
- Well-Being: our students' social and emotional well-being. Talk with them about their greatness and continue to emphasize their value.
- Please have a daily conversation on how important education is and the benefits it can bring to their successful journey.
Second, my concerns are:
- Work ethics. Inquire with teachers more often to follow up on your students. We all know children are sometimes not as responsible as we would like them to be.
- Please encourage them to get up daily and accomplish their goals towards the following grade skill learning levels or post-secondary endeavors.
- Attendance-The list is massive; therefore, Students must be at school at 8:30 sharp daily, not walking in at 8:31. This is unacceptable. All students are required to be in class at 8:30 to begin learning.
- Skipping Class: Students lack reporting to their assigned place of learning; therefore, we require those students to attend "Detention" at 7:30 am every Wednesday until the end of school starting March 6th. If students are late, consequences will be rendered chronologically according to the code of conduct. Thank you for being so supportive.

Information Juniors Need To Know!
Attention Juniors! Please read the info below on the Bezos Scholars program! HERE
The program starts with virtual community building in May 2024 and then an all-expenses-paid experience for the student and educator at the Aspen Ideas Festival. While there, Scholars learn from inspiring global leaders and build lasting friendships with their cohort while enjoying the beauty and magic of Aspen. During the following school year, Scholars receive ongoing mentorship, leadership development, free college advising, and $1,000 in funding to launch a community change project to make a difference in their hometowns.
To be eligible to apply, U.S. students must:
Be a current junior and attend an eligible public school with a contemporary, overall free and reduced lunch rate of 30% or higher.
Be enrolled in one advanced course (Honors, AP, IB, etc.)
Be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or have received DACA status.
Be available to meet the yearlong program commitments and attend the Aspen, Colorado trip from June 22–June 28, 2024.
Nominate a school staff member to be their educator who would participate fully in the program alongside them.
Please encourage students to start their application soon by applying online, which is due by January 25, 2024. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for helping us identify and support the next generation of leaders!
Best Regards,
Junior Counselor,

News to Use from the Front Office
Front Office Focus!
Dear Students,
We hope this message finds you well. We want to share some important information regarding attendance procedures to ensure a smooth and efficient process for all students.
1. Late Check-In Time: Late check-in time for students is set at 8:31 AM. It is essential for students to arrive on time to make the most of their educational experience.
2. No Check-Outs After 3:00 PM: Please be aware that the front office will not process student check-outs after 3:00 PM. To minimize disruptions during the last hour of the school day, we kindly request that all check-outs be completed before this time. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy.
3. Absence Notes: In the event that your child is absent, we kindly ask you to provide a written note explaining the reason for their absence. These notes should be brought to the front office as soon as the student returns to school. Clear communication regarding absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records.
Your understanding and cooperation in following these guidelines are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the front office. We are here to assist you and ensure the well-being and success of all our students.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best regards,
Front Office Staff
