GLVN Bulletin
News for GLVN Volunteers (Thông Tin cho Thầy Cô GLVN)
March 31, 2017
Dear Catechists,
I don't know about you, but around this time of year, I tend to start to feel a little weary. The cold weather feels like it drags on. There are no holidays to give us a little break from the stress of work and school. Being in the desert for 40 days of Lent leaves us feeling a bit tired and thirsty right about now.
It's hard to remember that it's at this time when the tempter is going to attack us the most -- at our weakest moments. I've had quite a few of those moments this past week. When little things that shouldn't matter much just frustrated me in a way that was not productive. When loving others became this impossible task. When all the sacrifices became all about me instead of all about HIM.
As I reflected on what God wanted me to do for Him this coming weekend through the ministry He called me to and how I was going to find the strength to do it, I was reminded that this time of dryness and was His way of reminding me where I needed to go to fulfill the thirst. This was the time He was using to draw me closer to Jesus -- to let Jesus carry my cross, to encounter Jesus in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, and to faithfully follow Jesus to Calvary so that I can learn to love as He does.
I know we each have these kinds of moments, especially at this time of the year, and I hope that in those moments, you too will be reminded of the love God has for you and where to find strength. I continue to pray for all of our catechists and volunteers. Let's continue to encourage and lift each other up, especially as we approach Holy Week.
In Christ,
Chi
(PS. If there is anyone who didn't give up Facebook for Lent ... could you please share the link to this bulletin on our Teacher Facebook group for me? :-) Thank you!!)
April Catechist Meeting
Lunch will be provided.
Sunday, Apr 2, 2017, 11:15 AM
St Anne-St Joseph Hien Church, Queen Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN, United States
As many of you have heard, this lop 9 class has definitely been one of the more challenging to reach. But those of us who were there for the 24 hours with these students definitely saw the movement of the Spirit in the students. I'll keep the words short and let the photos speak for themselves :-)
Click here to see photos from the CHOSEN retreat.
Thank you to Lop 9 teachers and to all of the volunteers who made this retreat possible. The extra time and care you put into this first retreat for this class has truly prepared the soil for God to plant some seeds for what's to come for these students as they enter into their Lop 10 Confirmation year. THANK YOU!
During the CHOSEN retreat for lop 9, we had a special room set up for adoration. Thank you to everyone who came and spent time with Jesus, praying for the students and all our common intentions. I can definitely say that the Holy Spirit was moving in the hearts of our students during those 24 hours as we witnessed the students also visiting the Lord ... even at 1:45 a.m.!!
Join us for a volunteering evening! It's coming up Friday, April 7, and we look forward to spending time serving God together in a different way! Sign up today!!
A Female Retreat for Grades 7-12
We appreciate your help to extend the invite to young female teens that you know as well. It will be a beautiful retreat day together learning how to Be Loved by God and sharing in the sisterhood that God has given our youth here at our parish.
Background About the Challenge
This year, students will earn tickets, and they can exchange them any time throughout the GLVN Challenge for all sorts of fun prizes. It's a little like Chuck E Cheese. This way the students are really just challenging themselves (versus competing against others). Last year's competition got a little to competitive, and so we wanted to change it up a little this year to keep it fun.
Challenge activities will be handed out before the Mass time, and are always due the following Sunday to earn the points for the specific activities. No late submissions will be accepted.
Click here to read the details on how to participate. Please encourage your students to take part in the GLVN Challenge!
Weekly challenge worksheets will also be posted online at https://www.smore.com/4avnt

Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in THEIR needs. We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, annointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.
Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith.
We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread. We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours. Amen.
Morning Prayer Together
Don't forget to join us exactly at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning in the Teacher's Lounge for morning prayer together. It will be brief (2-3 minutes) so that you can get to your classrooms before 10. Whether there are 30 of us or just 2 of us -- this brief prayer time will take place every Sunday, so please join in to offer up our day to Jesus!
