Pacific Intermediate
April 2021
A Word From Our Principal......Mr. Agee
Pacific Intermediate Families,
April is an exciting time of the year for all students. The temperatures begin to rise allowing for more outdoor activities, students continue working on learning and improving their skills, and the end of the year is just around the corner!
In our hopes of giving back to our community, students just completed their kindness projects. These varied from writing thank you letters to people who provide services all the way to creating ABC books for our younger students at Doris Hoffman Early Learning Center. We appreciate the joy our students have shown while they worked on these projects, and if you haven’t heard about them at home, take a minute to talk with your child about what they were able to do and who they were able to do it for in our community.
As we approach the end of April, we will begin gearing up for state testing. Most of our MAP testing will take place in May, and additional information will be provided in next month’s newsletter.
Most students have had a very successful year at Pacific Intermediate. This is our last chance, however, to raise grades for second semester. As a reminder students with two or three semester F’s will be required to attend summer school in order to be promoted to the next grade. This summer school program will not be the traditional program, but instead this is a program designed to be a credit recovery program that focuses on skills in math and English. Students with four or more semester F’s will be retained in their current grade level.
Summer school registration is open for students. If you are having problems getting registered, or would like to confirm you are registered, please contact the office at (636)271-1425.

Happy Spring!
We are definitely ready for some warmer weather! Please make sure that masks are getting washed every day and your child has plenty of deodorant. It would be greatly appreciated. Please continue to check your emails and SIS. As always, if you need anything from us, please let us know.
Reading:
We are completing our second novel unit of the school year. Our focus has been elements of fiction, word meaning using context clues, and citing evidence. The students have done a great job and seem to really enjoy the book. The rest of the year we will focus on myths and ancient tales passed down through the centuries. This is always a popular unit with our 6th graders.
Social Studies:
Students are learning about the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
Math:
We will start reviewing for the MAP test. We will be using the Buckle-Down Series and students will be having worksheets for their homework. Please make sure your child is completing them on a nightly basis. Your child may also bring a calculator to class. Email your teacher if you have any questions.
Science:
We have just wrapped up our Earth Surface unit and will be diving into our last unit, Ecology. We will be doing several projects, posters, comic strips, and hands-on activities for this unit. Please check for our weekly emails.
English:
Students in English have started their argumentative writing unit. They are creating arguments in response to the prompt, "Should self-driving cars be allowed on the road?"

Counselor's Corner.................Ms. Diamond
Term 3 report cards were emailed to parents on March 19th. Hopefully you were happy with the grades earned, and had time to discuss any improvement needed or desired. Parental involvement and encouragement, along with teacher support, are crucial to academic success.
If your child had any D’s or F’s your teacher should have contacted you to discuss ways of improving their grade.
This month both grade levels will be registering for elective classes for next year. Mrs. Borgsmiller was here last week to discuss elective options, and 7th grade expectations. This will help students gain knowledge of what to expect at Riverbend. I will be registering 5th graders for their elective preferences in 6th grade. Students will be able to ask questions, and will learn the differences between the two grade levels.
Virtual students will be starting MAP testing the week of April 6th. Most in person students will start MAP testing the week of May 3rd. More details will be coming out about dates and times of testing. As always, students should get plenty of rest and a good breakfast especially on testing days.
