EHMS Weekly Update 2/26/24 - 3/1/24
Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
Spring Parent Conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, from 1:00-7:30 and Thursday, March 21st, from 1:00-5:00. We have planned our conferences to provide meaningful feedback on your child's progress both socially and academically. You will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teachers who will provide an overview on your child's progress on both their Achievement, how a student is progressing on skills and standards within their content classes, and on their Habits of Success, skills we value as essential to student engagement and learning.
Families will receive an email via Parent Square from each of their child's individual teachers to sign up for a 5 minute time slot for each class. E-mails and information regarding Parent Teacher Conferences will be sent out to families at 6:00 P.M. on March 6, 2024 . Conference sign-ups will close at 3:00 P.M on March 15. You may sign up to meet with one, a few, or all of your child’s teachers.
Parent conferences are optional, but we welcome all families who would like to meet with their child’s teacher. If you do not plan to attend conferences in March, please fill out the google form to specify you will not be participating. You can include your child/children's name(s) in the notes. Due to scheduling and the necessary preparation required for conferences, teachers will not be able to accommodate “Drop-Ins” during Parent Conferences.
Virtual conferences will also be available for families who may need that option. If you need to schedule a virtual conference, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher. These conferences may be held at a mutually agreed upon time between individual teachers and parents and may fall outside of the 20th and 21st.
As always, whenever a concern arises, please reach out to your child's Team Leader. The following are the contacts per grade level:
Team 6 contact: Ms. McCabe - tmccabe@easthamptonct.org
Team 7 contact: Mrs. Parsons - kparsons@easthamptonct.org
Team 8 contact: Mrs. Berube - mberube@easthamptonct.org
We can accommodate a team meeting at any point of they year to ensure we are best supporting your child and family. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Emily or myself.
Best,
Christina & Emily

A Look Into Our Panther Community!
Students in 6th Grade math are currently learning how to divide fractions. In this unit, students examine how the sizes of the numerator and denominator affect the size of their quotient. They solve problems involving lengths, areas, and volumes using different strategies.
7th grade students have started their next reading unit, in which they will be developing essential research skills. Students were able to choose their topics, some of which included World War II, the Vietnam War, Rights and Freedom, and Immigration. Students will spend time researching in groups and gathering information to become experts on their topics to then present their knowledge in a final project.
World Language Selection
6th graders will be selecting a world language to pursue for 7th grade in the near future. They may choose to take one of the two languages (French or Spanish). Please talk with your child about their interests to aid in the decision-making process with them. Language selection will take place during the first week of March in your student’s Exploratory World Language class. Some select students who have a high level of interest in learning French and Spanish choose to take both languages. If they choose both, they will not have either specials or PE/Health in their schedule. Parents must provide consent in order for students to take dual languages as it is a big academic commitment.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's World Language teacher.
Positive Office Referrals
Below are some students who have received Positive Office Referrals for their behaviors that have exemplified our PBIS pillars of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion and Pride. Students were able to choose a reward from our menu of options like eating outside with friends! Great job! Our students celebrated this week are:
6th Graders
Abigail Tinney, Caleb Pinaud, Josslyn Marrero, CJ, Levesque, Ava Kosek, Jenna Sandquist, Nick Bagley, Abbie Coyne
7th & 8th Graders

For one of our PBIS activities, we played Name that Movie! During period 7, caller 8 had to call into the office naming the correct movie to the line - "No became the new YES!" Mrs. Phillips class was our 8th caller! They correctly named Yes Day! Pictured below are Mrs. Asklar and Mrs. Dudek answering the phones.
We are excited to see our 8th graders hard at work on their Capstones. This year’s topics range from hands-on projects such as learning metalworking, restoring and rebuilding a dump truck, and dog training, to outreach and educational ventures, such as analyzing the impact of AI on our society, volunteering at an animal sanctuary, and fundraising for various causes. We are excited to see what our 8th graders create and invite you to attend our Capstone Convention, which will be held on the evening of May 21. Please save that date! Below are pictures from one of our 8th graders selling hand-made dog toys to support the Hartford Pound.

A phone call is appreciated, but only an email to our attendance inbox or written note can officially excuse absence 1 through 9. Below is our attendance email:

School Based Health
Happy New Year! Did you resolve to be more on top of your and your child’s health this year? Here’s an easy solution: Sign your child up for School-Based Health Care. Your child’s school works with Community Health Center, Inc.’s School-Based Health Care program to provide health services to your child during the school day. This means they won’t miss as much class and you don’t need to miss work to support their health care needs.
