Kindergarten News ACES
Week Of November 21st
Highlights From Last Week....
In Reader's Workshop, we continued to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We also worked on raising our level of talk with one another. We focused on listening to each other and building our conversation on what our partner said.
In Math, we began our new unit on shapes. We are learning what the names of the shapes are and what makes the shape that shape. For example, a triangle is a flat shape that has 3 sides and 3 vertices.
In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "we" and "to", please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week were "L", "H" and "K".
In Science, we learned about the habitat of a salmon. The kids loved learning about this type of fish!

We will be having a holiday party on December 23th. In light of the holiday and literacy, we will be participating in a holiday book swap. The dollar value on the books should be about $5.00 (Ocean State Job Lot has a great selection for low cost). I will also be sending home a book order with a coupon. The order will be placed on December 7th. If it is a hardship and this is not feasible for you, please let us know in advance. We always have extra books that your child can choose and give to their classmate. If you would like to provide a snack, please let me know.
Notes from Mrs. Chadwick
This week we decided we wanted to create labels for the things in our classroom to help us find them and put them away. Many kids chose to help with this during free choice. They loved being part of making our classroom even better.
We also talked about not being a "space invader" and that we need to be mindful of our surroundings and personal space with others.

As we get closer to the holidays, we will be learning about many different holidays and traditions around the world. I would love to hear about what the holidays and traditions look like for your families.
Great job with your reading logs! I have been cleaning out books at school and home and have a box of books that the kids can pick from as they fill in a page of the log or as a prize box pick. The kids are so excited to get to pick from the books!!!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
We will be having a holiday book exchange. Please look for the notice this coming week.
On Friday we had our NAtional Honor Society from the middle school visit us. They brought a book and read it to us. After reading the story they had an snowman activity for the students to make. Those will be hanging in our room.

Our Holiday concert will be December 19th at 9:00 for Kindergarten and First grade. Our class will be singing Jingle Bell Rock! It's a song with some tricky words, so we plan to practice quite a bit.
