A Word from the Administrators
Good Afternoon Families,
We hope that your three day weekend has some time with family and lots of fun!
Please notice in our calendar that the testing days are not listed. Instead they are posted in the testing section of the newsletter! The students have been working hard at reviewing the material for the year and working on the Short and Extending Constructive Response that is new to the STAAR test this year. Not sure what these types of written responses are? Check out this example from the state RIGHT HERE This will give you a good idea of what your student should expect to see on test day for the READING STAAR
Also this year all students are taking the test ONLINE. This is a state requirement and we have embedded student STAAR review and learning throughout the year in an online format so they are able to work through the platform with ease. If you would like more information about the changing format of the STAAR test and many other PARENT RESOURCES CHECK THIS OUT!
We look forward to seeing everyone at school tomorrow!

If you would like to send an additional snack, you are welcome to do so. Please try to send something healthy that can be eaten easily without a mess (ex. berries, grapes, cubed cheese, pretzels, beef jerky, etc.).No Takis or Cheetos etc. or liquid snacks such as fruit cups or pudding since it can compromise the technology used for testing. If you would like tips for helping prepare your student ahead of the test, check out How to Help My Child Prepare a couple of weeks in advance.

News from Nurse Lindsey
Artificial nails. They are popping up more and more in school. So many of our students are wearing them now. However, they are interfering with learning and hygiene. Long nails harbor germs and bacteria, a lot of germs and bacteria! The nails also get in the way of students' ability to write easily with a pencil, type on the keyboards, and even zip their pants. Our students are still developing children, they are still learning how to write properly and building foundations for computer skills that will last them a lifetime. If they are unable to learn how to quickly and accurately use a keyboard because long artificial nails are in the way during the learning process it could hinder future possibilities.
At the elementary level every student goes out to play at recess daily and has PE weekly. There are many games played. All of these activities can cause the artificial nails to be ripped off, causing pain and risking infections. We have to remind students constantly to wash their hands, even demonstrating the proper ways to clean hands. Artificial nails create a breeding ground for bacteria and so often students are not conscious enough of cleaning around and under the fingernails. It is best for students at the elementary level not to wear artificial nails. For safety during play, risk of infections, and distraction from learning opportunities please do not allow your student to wear artificial nails to school.
