SAVE THE DATE FORBASIC & ADVANCEDOASC SUMMER WORKSHOPS ARE BACK!

BASIC AND ADVANCED SUMMER WORKSHOP REGISTRATION COMING SOON

On Sunday, March 7th, the OASC Board met with BASIC and Advanced Workshop Directors to discuss curriculum to see what should be included, augmented or dropped in order to hold our summer workshops while strictly following CDC guidelines (masking and six foot social distancing) while still fulfilling the purpose of the workshops--equipping student leaders with tools to improve their individual leadership skills and their home councils overall leadership abilities. Based on the tremendous work and planning of the BASIC & Advanced Workshop Directors, which was evidenced by a willingness to shift activities that could not be socially distanced, the Board unanimously voted to hold our workshops this summer.

In addition to curriculum our Workshop Directors have:

  • Updated maximum numbers per council/break out sessions/seating arrangements

  • Implemented daily temperature checks.

  • Planned for quarantine rooms for those with Covid symptoms to wait until parents pick them up.

  • Planned for sanitation stations throughout the workshop/in general sessions, rmeeting rooms and outdoor events.

  • Limited seating for meals to assist with safety and contact tracing.

  • Planned for a strict masking policy during daily activities and will have a supply on hand (only exeption to masking is meals).

  • Planned for dorm room social distancing--BASIC at NWOSU has 3 bedoom pods with twin beds more than six feet apart and will limit to 5 students from same council per pod and Advanced will be moving to the new Cross facilities on OU's campus that has 4 bedroom pods and will assign 4 per pod. Masks will not be required while showering or sleeping.

  • Planned for the OASC to provide each attendee with hand sanitizer.

As we do with our other OASC events with students who have to cancel late or leave early, we will not be able to reimburse students that are sent home due to covid symptoms, positive test, or close contact with a positive case due to upfront costs for the workshop.

BASIC WORKSHOP INFO

(A student may only attend Basic ONE time.)

This is a WORKshop—not just another convention or camp.

Mission Statement: To develop student leaders by offering training and hands-on experiences so the students can enhance their local student council and school culture while preparing themselves for future leadership roles in their schools, careers, and communities.

Delegates are expected to have the maturity and motivation to participate actively in planned activities and improve their leadership abilities. The delegates will spend 10-12 hours daily learning and practicing leadership skills in student council groups. These groups simulate the work of delegates’ local councils or groups, where advisors and council members work closely together to achieve goals.

Major skill development sessions will be offered in the following areas:

1. Group Processes - large and small
2. Communications
3. Project Planning
4. Problem Solving
5. Leadership Styles
6. Interpersonal Relations
7. Team Building
8. Group Dynamics
9. Goal Setting
10. Fund Raising/School Activities

ADVANCED WORKSHOP INFO

This workshop is designed for Senior student leaders who have attended BASIC and are eager to further develop their skills. Students have the opportunity to discover more about their individual styles as they work through leadership situations. Team building activities, advanced leadership skill training, and an Outdoor Adventure Experience are a part of the Advanced Workshop.

Advanced Mission Statement

The goal of Advanced is to help delegates become more effective leaders in society through self-actualization, learning their role in group development, understanding their own leadership strengths and learning how to lead and treat others with respect.
