Middle School
See below for instructions and more information about Middle School Summer Reading:
- All students entering grades 5, 6, 7 & 8 are expected to read at least one book from their grade level list.
- This note taking sheet can be used to help remember the big ideas or most interesting parts of the book. In September, students will participate in text-based activities involving the books they have read.
- We recommend you use the Common Sense Media site to evaluate the content of the books on the reading lists to help you make a choice that is most appropriate for your family.
- Special thanks to Meghan Witherell at the Attleboro Public Library for her thoughtful book recommendations!
Attleboro High School Summer Literacy 2022
Our Summer Literacy Recommended Reading lists offer a diverse array of books designed to reach our entire school community. While students are free to select their own texts, we’ve included recommendations to encourage students to engage with next year’s grade level themes of identity, systems, change, and purpose.
Students are encouraged to select texts that align with their specific grade level theme and reflect on that theme by completing an activity from the Project List. All students should read this summer; however, unlike in previous years, students will not be required to submit their summer literacy work to their advisor. The activities herein are enrichment and, therefore, optional; yet participating in these activities will extend your learning, lend insight into the learning to come next year, and reinforce skills you already have.
Notice:
Although the books on the Recommended Reading lists are appropriate for high school students, families should be aware that some books/movies contain adult topics with adult language and/or controversial material. Different families have different perspectives on what is most appropriate for their student so please review these books carefully before deciding which ones are most appropriate for your child.
Students and parents should review choices before reading to determine the personal suitability of the chosen text. Some suggested sites for reviewing books:

ST Math
Encouraging your students to play ST Math with their penguin friend JiJi will be easier than cracking open math journals from school years past. This summer, we have the opportunity to participate in a fun and engaging 10 week Summer of Math! Families sign up for a weekly activity to be emailed directly to them. The activities -- math stories, board games, nature walks -- are a wonderful & easy way for families to help students fall in love with math. The program is free and works on a cell phone. See the second page of the letter below for details & to sign up!
In addition to Summer of Math, students continue to have access to ST Math. Our goal this summer is to have students complete 60-90 minutes a week to support their math growth.
