Season of Lent
We are now preparing ourselves for the upcoming
period of Lent, a 40 day period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. Throughout Lent we will continue to take time to pray, reflect and be charitable towards others. Together, we pray that this upcoming Lenten Season will bear good fruit in all of our lives.
Virtue of Respect
We encourage parents to discuss the monthly Virtue of Respect with their children.
For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. (1 Cor. 9:19)
God wants us to treat all people with the respect they deserve.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a respectful person...
· Has a confident, positive sense of self and respect for the dignity and welfare of others
· Honours the rights, responsibilities and contributions of self and others
· Values and honours the important role of family in society
· Values the environment and uses resources wisely
· Honours the faith traditions, world religions and life
journeys of all people of goodwill
Please join us at our Virtue Assembly of Respect February 14, 2020.

STOPR reminders
STOPR will monitor weather and road conditions during the winter months and will make a decision to cancel school transportation by 06:00 am each morning.
When it is necessary to cancel school transportation, STOPR will post this information on our website at www.STOPR.ca and on our "twitter" account @STOPRinfo.
Local radio stations and media will also broadcast cancellation information, however we encourage parents/guardians to follow us on twitter and check the STOPR website for the most up to date cancellation information.
Lunch Reminders
We would like to remind parents that there are a number of students in the school with life threatening allergies to nut products.
Lunches are to be left on the table in the hallway outside the office by 12:00pm. Remind your child that his/her lunch is being dropped off, so that they have enough time to eat before being dismissed for Lunch Recess at 12:20pm.
Parents are reminded not to open the door for other visitors.
Wellness @ STM
Parents are asked to remind their child to use good hand hygiene and cough etiquette, to minimize the spread of germs during cold and flu season.
Good hand washing procedures, as well as other
preventative measures, can be found at the Peel Health website:
Social Media Reminders
Social networking (ex. TikTok, Instagram) has recently become very popular. A reminder to continue to monitor your child's social media accounts. Remind your children to avoid identifiable objects when using this app. To ensure that there’s no way of anyone tracking your child’s location or identity, make it clear to them that they should never film a video in their school spirit wear or near a landmark that gives away where they live. Videos should never be made at school as per the Personal Electronic Devices Policy.
Pancake Tuesday & Mardi Gras Dance
Our Pancake Tuesday & Mardi Gras Dance celebration will be on February 25, 2020. The event will be hosted by the St. Thomas More Catholic School Council and Youth Faith Ambassadors.
Parent volunteers will be making and serving pancakes with syrup as a snack on that day. Each class will have a time slot to dance and celebrate. All students are invited to participate. We are asking for a minimum donation of $2.00. The money raised will be donated to ShareLife.

TVO Mathify Homework Help
SUPPORTING GRADE 7-10 ONTARIO MATH STUDENTS
In today’s fast changing world, math has become essential for student success. With the increased importance of STEM, computer coding and programming, TVO recognizes that students today require a strong foundation in mathematics to reach their goals and believes that all students deserve a quality math education.
This is why Mathify supports teachers in-class and grade 7-10 students after school with 24/7 online math resources and after school math tutoring. Our mandate is simple – make math accessible and approachable for all Ontario students. We are here for Ontario students and teachers.
Catholic School Council
All are welcome to attend.
We would like to thank the CSC for organizing Shrove Tuesday pancakes. If you are able to assist us in preparing pancakes on February 25th, please let the office know as soon as possible.
Inclement Weather Reminders
Our winter season is here! At this time we would like to
remind all students to dress appropriately for the
season by wearing the proper winter attire which
should include hats, gloves/mitts, winter coats and boots. When students are dressed properly for the
winter conditions, they can go outside and enjoy some
fresh air and activity in comfort. There will be a few
times during the course of the year where a recess
may be shortened or held indoors due to extreme cold
temperatures. Our school board policy states that
although consideration should be given for keeping
students indoors during recesses when the wind chill
reaches -20C, students are to be kept indoors during
recesses when the wind chill reaches -25C.
In the colder weather, we receive numerous requests
to allow children to remain indoors when students have
a cold, the flu, etc. Please note that we cannot
comply as we neither have the facilities nor the staff to
supervise these students. Moreover, the health officials indicate that the fresh air is good for children, not harmful as long as they are dressed appropriately.
