Skyline K-8 News
November 22, 2019
From the Principal
Happy Friday!
Conferences are coming up next week on November 25th and November 26th. Conferences are a great time to be able to chat with families and check in. Principals were encouraged to conduct an optional informal parent survey if we wanted. Skyline K-8 will be asking parents to complete a Parent Survey. We will hand the surveys out upon arrival and would like them returned back to the office. We will also have a stack of surveys next to the sign in station at the office window. Attached is a link here to the survey for you to bring in if you prefer or email it to dgubbins@pps.net if you are not planning on attending conferences. Thank you for your help.
We really look forward to seeing all of you! Also, please take a moment to check the Lost & Found outside the main office when you are here for conferences.
Thank you to Mrs. Nagel for hosting the staff meeting in her classroom and sharing a teacher trick. A big shout out to Jackie George for providing our staff with yummy snacks during our meeting. This week’s staff meeting Miss Allie and the PBIS/Climate Team presented on several topics.
Thank you to everyone who attended our IB Awards/PBIS Assembly, Pastries with the Principal and our first Publishing Party for our kindergarten students on Wednesday. We had a wonderful turnout and truly appreciate the family support.
We would love to continue to have lunch volunteers daily from 11:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. for our K-2 lunch and recess after winter break until spring break. Please email or call Debbi in the main office if you are interested in volunteering. Thank you in advance.
If you are not following us on Twitter @BGAGUIRRE1 and @skyline_ib, you are missing out! It has been so much fun watching all of our students engaged in learning while also being safe, respectful, responsible and IB ready.
All the best,
Mrs. Aguirre

If a staff member sees unknown persons walking around the building or on the grounds without PPS identification or a visitor's badge, he/she should inform the visitor of the requirement and escort them back to the office or call the office immediately. Never put yourself at risk. Visitors should never be left unsupervised with students. All visitors wishing to stay in a classroom for longer than a few minutes must be approved by the principal, including children brought by staff. IB Corner
Skyline Community! We are very excited to announce that our Art Enthusiast, Julie Jeanseau from Vibe, will be starting at Skyline next week. Julie and I met this week and we went over our IB program and curriculum and she is very excited to become part of the IB experience that we offer all of our students. Her philosophy of art instruction is very similar to our IB inquiry-based curriculum approach. She will be in classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday to provide an introductory art lesson to EVERY Skyline student.
After conferences and the Thanksgiving break, the teachers and I will sit down and finalize a schedule based on teacher needs, visions and schedules as well as that of Julie’s. This is very exciting! If you are in the building on these days and happen to see her, please welcome her to Skyline. I have been telling her how amazing the Skyline community is and that she has very big shoes to fill after all the amazing work of Shannon Garcia Shinn over the past few years!
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at mdunn2@pps.net or call at 503-916-5212.
TAG Corner
Please remember to turn in your TAG Nomination forms. All Nomination forms are due no later than November 26th, 2019.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, I handed out TAG Nomination forms to all teachers to send home to their students who have been identified as qualifying for TAG based on their 2018-19 OSAS scores as well as their beginning of the year, 2019-20, MAP scores. The TAG office has also sent home a postcard letting families know that their student qualifies. Please fill out the Nomination Form, IDPF, and return it to your student’s teacher. All forms need to be turned in to me no later than November 26, 2019.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at mdunn2@pps.net or call at 503-916-5212.

Volunteers
If you are able to volunteer, we have just a few spots we need extra hands. Please use the attached Sign-Up Genius. Thank you!
No need to worry about sending in cash; this year families can sign up for an even easier way to shop with e-wallet. For more information on e-wallet, please see the attached flyer.
MARIMBAS FOR SKYLINE STUDENTS- Half Way There!
Skyline students need one to one instrumentation for Music Class to learn rhythm, melody, harmony and ensemble musicianship. Marimbas can be played by all students K-8. They are simple enough for a young student and complex enough for older students. Music is fun, interesting and challenging when all students have an instrument to play in the Marimba Ensemble!
Help us raise $5,000 for a full classroom set of Marimbas. Make check donation out to Skyline PTA and deliver to the front office - Thank you for your generosity to Skyline Music Students!

Save the date! Our next PTA meeting is on January 16, 2020.
WE NEED YOU!
(1) Movie Nights: Organize just ONE family movie night this year! You pick the date, clear it with the school, fill out the CUB form, advertise, select the movie, and host the event! Just once! We’re sharing the load (or love!) this year by asking that parents and guardians step up to organize just one movie night. It’s easy, and we’re here to help guide you through it. Help us keep this great community engagement event alive! Please contact Abbey Poizer, our Volunteer Coordinator, with interest: abbeypoizer@comcast.net.
(2) Join Our PTA Board!
Seeking President-Elect, Treasurer-Elect, and Secretary-Elect:
Our PTA Board needs a new Prez, Treasurer, and Secretary beginning next year (for the 2020-2022 term). You'll shadow Clarissa Kearns, Amber Anderson or Carly Mersereau this school year, and take over next fall! This is a great opportunity to meet new people and become more involved in your child(ren)’s education. Please send nominations or emails of interest to Abbey Poizer, our Volunteer Coordinator, abbeypoizer@comcast.net.

Backpack Program
Hello Skyline Families –
Our wonderful school has an important program that helps fellow Skyline families that are in need of grocery help.
Usually, we get our food for the Backpack program from Sunshine Pantry in Beaverton. Sadly, they are in the midst of moving facilities and cannot help us right now.
I am asking that you, our awesome families, help us out until we can resume our regular food pick up.
I ask that you drop non-perishables at the school near the office. We are looking for pasta, sauce, fruit cups or squeezes, cereals, beans, veggies, canned meats. Anything your family would consume can be donated. Remember shelf-stable foods only.
Thank you,
Liz Ascher
