Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE RESPECTFUL'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Respectful'.
To be respectful we want our learners to greet people in a friendly manner, listen to others when they speak, share and take turns, work with others in work and play, keep our hands and feet to ourselves and say kind and encouraging things!
SCHOOL GOAL: 'EFFORT' KAHA
WHAT:
To give your best effort, especially when things get tough
WHY:
To always give your best even when things are hard – the Vogeltown spirit!
To appreciate the challenges that we face
So we can learn to step out of our comfort zones and take responsible risks
To learn a good work ethic in learning and play
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You always give 100% in everything you do, especially when it is challenging
You have a great work ethic and strive for the best
You take responsible risks in your learning and in play
You enjoy coming to school more and learning more!
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
This week we have been doing loads of learning in class. The Taranaki team have done some amazing art work around their class bird. The Huatoki team have been learning about different cultures in their classrooms (see photos below). The Paetoki team have been doing a lot of learning about instruments and body percussion - they sound great!
Also this week we had our annual Whanau tabloids day. It was another awesome event and the weather was perfect! Thanks again to Mr Stirling and the Vogeltown staff for the organisation and fun activities! (See some photos in the link below)
The whanau points have been updated. With the tabloids points and the IROCK tokens from this week, the top of the table is getting close. See the update below.
Dates to look out for the next two weeks:
Monday 16 November - Class Reps to Young Leaders Conference (Palmerston North)
Wednesday 18 November - Senior & Middle Athletics Day 9:05am - 1:00pm
Thursday 19 November - Junior Athletics Day 11:30am - 1:00pm

FROM THE SYNDICATES
TARANAKI (JUNIOR) TEAM
The last few months have been very busy with lots of learning going on, both in and beyond the classrooms.
Our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle topic was very successful. It included a trip to the recycling centre, visits into the classroom by Cynthia McCracken and the setting up of a worm farm for the Junior school by Mrs Stone and Mrs Lash.
The children have been involved in fun problem solving and technology activities.
The concrete cycle track at the junior school has been well used and was perfect for our cycling and scooter skills activities. After a week of daily cycle skills, we could clearly see a huge improvement in confidence and skill levels.
The juniors have been involved in the cross country running and this week’s whanau tabloids.
The seniors are always great buddies for our juniors at these events.
We are so proud of the juniors who have a “give a go” attitude to participating in these whole school events.
We are at present learning a variety of dances to share with our Junior parents and whanau at the end of the year - more details about this and our end of year fun activities in the near future.
Many thanks for your support this year.
Taranaki Syndicate
HUATOKI (MIDDLE) TEAM
Kia ora everyone. It has been a fantastic start to Term 4 with lovely fine spells and warmer weather allowing our children more opportunities to go explore and learn outside.
As a syndicate, we have been learning about countries around the world, specifically countries that are linked to our ESOL students in our classrooms. Within this focus we have all been developing our general knowledge about each country, the music and food they eat and special celebrations. We have even learnt some of the language!
It was great to see our Huatoki children involved in the Whanau Tabloids on Wednesday. They all showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Every Thursday afternoon we have been outside practising for our Athletics day in Week 6. Our children have been learning how to do high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. I cannot wait to see them in action showing us their new athletic skills.
Regards
Huatoki Syndicate
PAETOKI (SENIOR) TEAM
The Paetoki team has started the term off with a bang. We’ve been learning about music and the different elements that make it. As the term progresses we’ll be making and creating sounds and turning them into music. In writing, our syndicate is focussing on poetry and will use some of these creative poems to use as lyrics. The children have been practicing athletics every Tuesday afternoon and can’t wait to sink their teeth into the athletics day coming up. A fun term indeed!
Regards
Paetoki Syndicate
Covid Level 1 Information for Vogeltown School
At Vogeltown School:
There will be no more signage displayed around the school sites
Parents/caregivers are welcome on site. You do not need to ring before coming on school sites. Although we are still encouraging the morning ‘drop offs’ at the gates.
After 3pm parents/caregivers and kids are allowed on the school sites. Please be aware however that our staff are still working after 3pm to get programmes ready for the next day in their rooms - they need this time for preparation.
We will open the drinking fountains on both school sites. Learners can still bring drink bottles if they so wish.
We will still ask that if your child is sick to please keep them home. As you know staying at home if you’re sick is especially important at Alert Level 1. The risk of COVID-19 being spread in the community is much greater when there are no restrictions on gatherings or going out.
If your child has cold or flu symptoms you should call your doctor or Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice about getting tested. If recommended to get tested, you should do so.
For our Vogeltown community:
COVID-19 is contained at Alert Level 1, but it’s still worthwhile to keep a safe distance from people you don’t know while out and about. This will help to minimise the spread of COVID-19 if community transmission returns.
For air travel you are not required to wear a face covering, (if not travelling to, through or from Auckland), but you are encouraged to do so for your safety and the safety of those around you. Consider doing the same for all inter-regional travel.
Scan into places through the NZ COVID Tracer app or keep a good record of where you have been, to support speedy contact tracing.
We will still have our ‘contact tracing QR code’ posters up at our classroom doors and office doors.
There are no restrictions on numbers at gatherings. Schools, like workplaces, are not considered to be gatherings. Physical activities including cultural and sporting activities, practices and events can go ahead
There are no restrictions on domestic travel. People should avoid using mass transport if sick, awaiting a result from a COVID-19 test or required/recommended to self-isolate.
THE ANNUAL VOGELTOWN HANGI
As with every other year, the food we get donated is the food we eat on the day. A big thanks to our Home and School Committee, who always bolster up the meat we need for the hangi.
If you can help with any of the items below, please bring them in to the school office(s) and we will begin getting ready for this amazing annual event.
We need:
Frozen Chickens, Potatoes, Kumara, Parsnips, Pumpkins, Carrots, Cabbages, beef rolls and pork rolls. For every item brought in, your child will receive a token for their whanau.
Also on hangi day we are having our Whanau hui. See the poster below for this event. We will also be posting this invite out today.
Thanks whanau

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) You may have noticed some of the male members of staff growing some very average moustaches at the moment. This is for a good cause - mens health, especially towards prostate cancer. If you want to donate, then here is the link, our goal is at least $100
https://movember.com/t/vogeltown-matua-whanau
3) Please please please ensure you and your children use the school pedestrian crossing on Huatoki Street. We have had a few close calls with cars recently and cannot emphasise enough the importance of using the crossing. Thank you for your support with this.
GOOD LUCK!
As a Vogeltown teacher, we are impressed that Mr Ransfield is showing the school values of courage to get in the ring and do this. He has been training for months and is ready to go!
good luck Nathan - from all the staff and the Vogeltown community!
We know Mr Ransfield will go well and will represent the school with pride!
Thanks whanau
Good luck to everyone playing sport this weekend!
