Kahungunu Executive delivered the Pūhuruhurutanga - Puberty Presentation with the support of Tihei Rangatahi co-cordinator, Miss Hineiaia Te Amo. This was a great opportunity for our student's to be involved in a presentation presented by our local role models. All our students completed a survey about the Pūhuruhurutanga - Puberty Presentation. Revel-Jamez Hook, Chase Carroll, Te Maioho Maitai and Logan Pitman won the Kahungunu Executive hampers.
Wairoa Aurora Young Leaders
The Aurora Leadership Programme, made up of students from schools around Wairoa. Uzair Sahib, Chase Carroll and Te Maioho Maitai are part of this group. As part of the Wairoa Aurora Young Leaders of 2022 the students have been learning about how they can give back to the kids in our community. With the help of Nigel How they are going to give our koha of kai and clothes to the organizations that will help distribute to those most in need. Our Wairoa community food bank, which gives food to other whanau who don’t always have a lot or who sometimes just need a helping hand. The members who help out don’t get paid and just do it out of their aroha for Wairoa.
Our Goal:
· Our message is all about giving back to our Wairoa community and giving back to our whanau.
· Koha from Wairoa College
· Helping tangata in need
· Give tamariki more
· And Mostly let our Wairoa Whanau know that we’re here for them.

Year 7&8 Cross Country
Our school Cross country is organised by Toby Taylor and the P.E Department in Term 1. Due to COVID we were unable to complete this. Also due to all the rain this Term we were unable to run a whole school Cross country as the grounds have been wet and muddy. Last week the Year 7&8 students were given the option to run in a Cross country event held at Toby Taylor’s farm. We had at least 24 runners who thoroughly ran their best and enjoyed the experience.

Year 11 – 13 students who are completing external assessments will have a chance to practice their exam skills during derived grade exam week. The first exam is on Monday 5th September. Exams will run all week. Please see the attachment for a full timetable.

Recreational Physical Education 202 Class
Services Academy - Year 10 Day Tramp
On Wednesday 17 August 2022, students from the Year 10 Services Academy embarked on an outdoor adventure to Lake Waikaremoana. Phase One, to tramp from Onepoto car park to Panekire Bluff (first lookout). In preparation for our tramp, students received lessons on basic navigation skills, map orientation using a compass, pacing distance and maintaining communication with portable radios. A first for most students, experiencing the physical demand required when conducting a tramp.
Phase two, cold water immersion in Lake Wakamarino. All students and I, without reservation leaped off the step walls jumping straight into the freezing cold water. Our objective, remain in the water for three minutes. What a long three minutes it was.
To finish our activities, students were in charge of preparing lunch. What a great time had by all.

Services Academy - Life 202 Workshop
Wairoa College Services Academy students completed a comprehensive Life and Financial Skills four-day workshop. The programme was designed to give people direction, motivation and the life skills to make positive and transformational change. Some of the content focused on property investment, share market and business plans. Overall, an amazing programme delivered by a passionate and motivated facilitator, Philip Moon.

Science Roadshow
Once again Wairoa College had the pleasure of hosting the Science Roadshow.
Once again, the Science Roadshow proved to be fun, exciting and an interactive learning
experience of science for our local tamariki.
The live show, 'Sparks, Arcs and Gherkins', show-casing the dynamics of electricity, was a hit.
There were many hands-on exhibits, including Astronomy, Ecology and the Environment,
Gravity, Heat, Human Lab and Sound.
Year 10 students assisted the Roadshow personnel and were praised for their efforts.
On behalf of Wairoa College, and the visiting Primary schools, we would like to thank the
Science Roadshow for including Wairoa in their tour and we are looking forward to a return
visit.
Music Workshop
On Wednesday 17th August, ten of our senior music students got the opportunity to work alongside Laughton Kora for the second time this year! Our students took part in an adult's songwriting session and were inspired by other musicians who attended. Nga mihi nui goes to Hawkes Bay Music Hub, the NZ Music Commission and EIT for funding such brilliant workshops and making them accessible to all. One of our students (pictured with Laughton), Putiki Greening performed at the conclusion as a thank you from our Wairoa cohort. Well done Putiki!
Here's what Laughton had to say about our students:
"It was great to see the students again! They spoke well and contributed to the session amazingly, keeping the room bubbly and alive. It was one of my favourite classes to date"

HEALTH CAREERS
On Tuesday 16th of August we had a team of passionate representatives from the Wairoa Hospital visit. Manager Robbie Walker is keen on recruiting and training new staff from our local area. Where better to spread the word about Health Careers than here at school with our eager students. Also talking to our senior students were representatives from St Johns Ambulance, Health Care Assistance, Nursing and Midwifery - Students were able to hear from all of the speakers as they moved around the hall and some have now established a plan to work in the area of health care. Thanks to our presenters for their energy and enthusiasm.
Trades Academy Courses at EIT
Are you interested in completing a course at EIT? Are you unsure about what course you would like to do? Some of our students have taken the opportunity to do Integrated Trades. This is where students get the chance to experience Automotive, Building and Construction or Engineering over the course of one year. During these courses students have built dog kennels, stools, a tool box and serviced a car. Picture Tom Kerley enjoying engineering.
The Open Day is Friday September 23. Year 11's will have the chance to attend. See Ms Hayward for more details.
