April 2019 Newsletter
A NOTE FROM MRS.SOCCIO
Thank you to all the families who completed the SurveyWorks 2019 school-wide survey. I appreciate your feedback and honesty. Once the results are released, our school improvement team will review and determine a plan moving forward. Together, we will celebrate areas of strength and brainstorm ways to improve weaknesses.
In preparation for end of the year events, please be sure you have a current background check (BCI) on file with our office if you plan to volunteer. Please see Mrs. Grissom or email her at Jamie.Grissom@ScituateSchoolsRI.net
It will soon be time to begin planning for the 2019-2020 school year! We will be discussing classroom placement, and the faculty, staff and I will spend time considering each student's strengths and needs. The focus will be on ensuring balanced classrooms that are conducive to an optimal teaching and learning environment. Academic performance, learning styles, social and emotional growth, and a variety of other factors will be considered. If there are any special considerations about your child that you would like to make sure we take into account throughout this process, please submit them to me in writing no later than April 12th. Due to fluctuating enrollment, classroom consolidation and/or additions, placement adjustments may occur prior to the start of school.
Respectfully,
Kaitlin M. Soccio

A note from the school nurse
Happy Spring everyone! Here are a few health related announcements and topics that might be of interest to you this month.
The RI Hearing Center will be coming to North Scituate School on Monday, April 8, 2019. Students in Kindergarten and grades 1 through 3 will have their yearly hearing evaluation. If your child has had recent ear surgery or a recent ear infection, please return the form that will be sent home with your child next week. Please call me if you have any questions.
As you are aware, RI Comprehensive Assessment System testing will begin for our students in grades 4, and 5 on April 1st, and for grade 3 on April 8. Please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast on these testing days, as well as every day! According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children who eat breakfast do better in school and have better concentration and more energy. Check out this article from healthychildren.org, the AAP website, for tips on making breakfast easier for parents. https://www.healthychildren.org/English/healthy-living/nutrition/Pages/Breakfast-for-Learning.aspx
Also, with the nice weather just around the corner, the Friday recess Walking Club will be starting up again after April vacation. If you’d like to volunteer to help stamp Walking Club cards, please keep an eye out for a notice/form which will be sent home during the next few weeks. The Walking Club will be held on Fridays, from April 26 through June 7th.
Thank You!
