Michelangelo

Michelangelo was born in Caprese, Italy on March 6, 1475. At age 12, he began to study works from Domenico Ghirlandajo. He also studied grammar with the humanist Francesco da Urbino, in Florence. Michelangelo had always been interested in art and painting from a very young age. He was more interested in art than in school and spent a lot of his childhood around painters. When he was 21, he moved to Rome, Italy which is where he spent most of his life. He created paintings and sculptures like The Last Judgement, David, and the Sistene Chapel Ceiling. His patron was the Medici family.
This piece is called Doni Tondo and was created in 1504. Today, it is located in the Uffizi in Florence, Italy. Michelangelo did a great job making this painting look so realistic which was an incredible new technique for back then. In this painting, it looks like there is a mother and father holding a baby with people and mountains in the background. I find this piece so interesting because it is so realistic that it looks almost like a photograph instead of a painting. This painting definitely relates a lot to humanism because the whole piece is based off of humans.
