The Storm Forecast
Week of December 21, 2020
Dear parents, guardians, and students,
As we prepare for the opening of our new school building and the full return to school, we want to share a change that will be taking place for the second semester.
The pandemic's effect on education has been profound- schools across our country closed in March forcing unprecedented virtual education. Being online for so many months has been tough on all of us and we recognize that there is no substitute for the education and relationship developed between students and teachers in the face to face environment.
In order to help students fill any learning gaps and to better prepare them for upcoming state or national exams, we feel that it will be beneficial to change the schedule for the spring to allow students to spend more time in class with their teachers. Therefore, our second semester schedule will consist of a block schedule that will operate as follows:
Mondays and Wednesdays: 1st, 2nd, 3rd periods (8am-2:30pm)
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 4th, 5th, 6th periods (8am-2:30pm)
Fridays: asynchronous instruction (ends at 1pm)
This means that students would only have to physically attend school Monday through Thursday. Fridays will consist of instruction delivered virtually. Attendance will still be taken on Fridays and both attendance and assigned work must be completed.
By extending the length of classes, students will be able to spend more time covering material more in depth and allow for more skills practice.
Students who are completing the 2nd semester virtually via Edgenuity will continue to have to complete attendance daily for each assigned class, 5 days a week. Failure to complete the attendance posted by the teacher will result in being marked absent. Excessive absences could result in being sent to the Attendance Intervention Team/Truancy Team and in the case of teen drivers, licenses may be revoked by the state.
I understand that this has been a year of constant change, and I pray that this is the last major change for a long time.
I hope that all of you and your families are safe and that you have a restful, happy and beautiful holiday season. I look forward to seeing all of your students in January.
Mrs. Knapp
Principal
Offices closed for the holidays

2nd semester schedules
Please check Focus for where your classes so you know where you will report on Tuesday morning!
There will not be any schedule changes. The only schedule changes San Jose Prep grants are for academic issues (i.e. student is placed in wrong level class or student is missing a graduation requirement class). Not wanting a class, teacher, or subject is not grounds for a schedule change.
Students with Doral College and FSCJ courses on their schedules: Both colleges will continue their courses online. Students who have these courses must complete at home- there is not an oncampus option for taking these classes. Please make sure that you have made transportation arrangements to and from campus.
Students with scheduling questions can contact Student Services at studentservices@sanjoseprep.org
Procedures for Tuesday, January 5
Students who checked out a Chromebook must return the Chromebook and the charger cord.
Don't forget that instruction begins promptly at 8am so please make sure that you arrive to school on time- pulling up to school at 8am is considered tardy because students must be in class by 8am.
REQUIRED virtual student orientation
All virtual students must join the Second Semester Virtual Meeting Room via Google Classroom: https://classroom.google.com/c/MjIwMjc4MDAwNjE4?cjc=ox6h26y

Virtual students who had Edward Waters College Dual Enrollment courses in the fall: EWC DE courses will not be offered virtually. For 2nd semester, another course will be assigned.

In order to drive to school, students must follow these guidelines:
- Complete the student parking application. Please read carefully for all requirements, rules and regulations.
- Parent must sign the form
- Email the form to Mr Hudspeth at randy.hudspeth@sanjoseprep.org. DO NOT PURCHASE A PARKING PASS UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED CLEARANCE FROM MR. HUDSPETH
- Once you receive approval from Mr. Hudspeth, go ahead and purchase your pass online
- Once your pass is purchased, bring the required documentation to Mrs. Pangle and she will issue your parking pass
Please remember that driving on campus is a privilege, not a right.
Get your parking decals!!
Please re-read procedures above on how to purchase parking decals.
New traffic pattern
For morning drop off and afternoon dismissal, all traffic will enter and turn left and follow the driveway around the property.
If your family has students in both San Jose Primary and San Jose Prep, ALL of your students will be ready for pick up at the San Jose Primary pick up point in the back. It is the Prep student's responsibility to get to their younger sibling and assist them with unloading and loading into the vehicle.
If your family only has Prep students, you will continue to circle around and eventually turn right at the San Jose Prep drop off/pick up area.
Please note that there will be 4 zones with staff that will be directing traffic. Please be respectful and patient with staff directing traffic and please follow directives for everyone's safety.
All traffic MUST exit right onto Sunbeam Rd. There will also be a school zone going up on Sunbeam Rd, so it is imperative to watch your speed for everyone's safety, especially that of our walkers and bikers.
As you know, dismissal is always a bit long the first week of school at any school. We ask for your patience the first week of school as we work through our first dismissals and get everything working with the efficiency of a Chick-Fil-A drive through at Disney World!
A: Yes
Q: Will we have the option to remain virtual?
A: Students may remain on live, synchronous instruction through the remainder of the 2nd quarter. We will reassess at the end of the semester as to whether or not there will be virtual instruction 3rd quarter. Should we have virtual instruction 3rd quarter, it will not be live synchronous instruction- students must work independently and must remain on this format for the remainder of the year
Q: What COVID precautions will you be taking?
A: Students and staff on campus must have daily temperature checks to enter the building, facemasks are required, COVID waivers must be on file with the school, frequent hand washing and sanitizing is expected, and we will practice social distancing where possible. There will be hand sanitizer stations throughout the school and hand sanitizer and wipes in every classroom. Our cleaning service will also be disinfecting surfaces nightly.
Q: What happens if someone tests positive?
A: If a student or staff member tests positive, contact tracing will begin. The student/staff member must quarantine for 14 days prior to returning to school. All schoolwork will be provided.
Q: What if someone else in the home tests positive?
A: If a sibling, parent, or someone else in the home tests positive, the student must quarantine for 14 days. School work will be provided
Q: What if my student develops symptoms throughout the school day?
A: If a student develops symptoms during the school day, a parent will be called to pick up the student. A negative COVID test result will be required to return to school. As always, students who develop fevers must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Please know that your health and safety is important to us and we will be doing everything we can to keep everyone healthy and safe.
