iPad Update from our Technology Department
The district's Technology Department has released the software delay and all district iPads are now able to update to 14. Please take a moment to update iPads if you haven't already done so. The iPad could be unavailable for use for up to thirty minutes. Updating the iPads to the latest iOS will ensure that they have the latest features and keep them running optimally. Below is a link from the Apple Support pages with updating instructions for those who need them. Again, please instruct students and parents to do this at home.
Notes from Nurse Bev
Due to confidentiality regulations, we are not able to share communicable illnesses on a classroom by classroom basis. Thus I will be sharing any illness updates with you in Mr. Bohon’s weekly parent newsletter when I have illnesses that are important for you to be aware of. Please understand that in most situations, this will not be widespread illnesses throughout the school but more likely only a few cases. However, should there be a large outbreak of a communicable illness such as influenza, which would warrant more information, additional communication will be shared. Common communicable illnesses such as colds will not be included in the report. Please remember to let me know if your child/children are diagnosed with any communicable illness.
Communicable illnesses affecting our students and/or staff this last week (11/13-11/19):
- COVID-19
- Strep throat
If an individual (student or staff) member at Manchester Park is diagnosed/tests positive for COVID-19, Mr. Bohon and I will be investigating each case to determine exposure risk to the rest of the staff and students of Manchester Park. This takes time as we will be looking at the individual’s movement in our school during the infectious period prior to the onset of symptoms or positive testing. Olathe Public School staff are working closely with the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment to identify any individuals in our school who may have been exposed.
Just a few reminders (a repeat from last week)
- Masks – please make sure that your child is wearing a mask when coming to school. It would be great if you would also please pack an extra mask in your child’s backpack. The Olathe District did purchase a limited supply of masks to be given to children if they forget a mask or if their mask becomes soiled or wet. Unfortunately that supply is dwindling so we need to ask everyone’s help in trying to remember to mask up before coming to school. Please remember the Olathe District mask policy is the “best type of mask has at least two layers of breathable, washable fabric. Masks should fully cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly and not gap at the sides. Masks with exhalation valves or vents should not be worn because they allow viral particles to escape.”
- Reporting an illness – please remember to report what symptoms your child is experiencing when calling your child in sick to the office. To help decrease the risk of exposure to not only the coronavirus but to other communicable illnesses, it is extremely important to know the symptoms as well as any diagnosis of a communicable illness. It takes a team to keep all of our students, staff and Manchester Park families healthy and safe.
- If you are planning on traveling over the upcoming Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to please look at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment website for travel restriction information. The link to that site is https://www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov/175/Travel-Exposure-Related-Isolation-Quaran
Thanks everyone for helping to keep all of us healthy and safe.
Second Semester Enrollment
2020-2021 MP Yearbook
Visitors, Parents, and Meetings
Visiting/Volunteering at School
Our families, visitors, and volunteers are vitally important to us and the educational process. We know parents often want to come for lunch, volunteer, and support their children and our staff during the day. As difficult as this is, during our first semester, this just isn't going to be possible because of the current circumstances and the need to keep students and staff safe. There are very few reasons we would allow entry into the school.
Child Pick Up:
If you come to pick your child up during the day outside of dismissal time, please call the school (780-7540) to let us know. Come to the front of the building, ring the doorbell, sign the student out, and we will have you stand by the main entrance until your child comes down to the office.
Child Drop Off:
If you are dropping your child off during a time that is not arrival time, please walk your child to the front doors. Open the door and direct your child to come into the office. We will help check them in and get them to class.
Student Items Forgotten:
If the student must have the item, like a lunch, please come to the building and ring the bell. Let the office know you have a drop off. There will be a small table in the entry way with writing utensils to label the items. You may leave the item on the table. We will pick it up and deliver.
Special Services and 504 Meetings
These meetings will take place via Zoom. Our team will continue to service students on their attendance day if they are in-person.
Parent Meetings with Teacher, Staff Member, or Mr. Bohon
These meetings will also take place via Zoom, via telephone, or email.
If you have the need for a face-to-face meeting, please contact the office to schedule an appointment. However, all meetings will occur in the office.
Snacks and Birthday Treats
Birthday Treats - Bringing birthday treats is and always has been optional and a family decision. We know that it is also an enjoyable experience for children. Due to our circumstances, birthday treats need to be individually wrapped items and store bought (not homemade). We also highly encourage non-edible birthday treats for the class – erasers, pencils, etc. Students will not be able to deliver to other teachers, only distributed to the classmates.
