NEW REQUIREMENT | nuevo requerimiento
Physical/Hard Copy Government-Issued Identifications
As Katy ISD continues its review of safety practices and protocols, it's essential to stress the significance of physical/hard copy government-issued identifications for accessing campuses/facilities, student registration, and student pickup. The district is strictly enforcing this requirement and will no longer accept paper or digital copies of driver's licenses, visas, and passports at any of its campuses or facilities, for these purposes. Katy ISD greatly appreciates the community's cooperation with these safety procedures and the ongoing partnership to maintain safe and secure environments across campuses.

El distrito está haciendo cumplir estrictamente este requisito y ya no aceptará copias impresas o digitales de licencias de conducir, visas y pasaportes en ninguno de sus escuelas o instalaciones, para estos fines. Arrival & Drop-Off Safety
Parents in order to maintain a safe and orderly arrival, please do not park or drop your students off in the staff parking lot. We have seen an increase of students running between cars and buses which is a major cause for concern. We ask that you remain inside your car in the car line and/or walk your student across the street and use the sidewalks where the crossing guards are located. When the weather changes, students with immune deficiencies are more at risk for respiratory infections. Hand washing and covering mouth and nose when sneezing helps reduce the spread of infection. Masks are great when worn, but not mandatory. Please be mindful of the 24-hour policy for fever of 100.0, vomiting and diarrhea. When following the 24 hour policy you help reduce the spread of infection, thus keeping everyone safe and healthy. Your student must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT medication or will be sent home.

KEYS MENTORING
We are searching for campus mentors!
The KEYS Mentoring program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) has been so helpful to our students in Katy ISD. I'm sure you are aware that mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Our goal is for every student who needs a mentor to have one. No waitlists, or students who go without because we are short. If you are open to mentoring or know someone who would love to mentor at Schmalz, please complete or share the application at the link below and be sure to choose Schmalz as your mentor campus. Likewise, if you would like your student to have a mentor, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.

Request to Reopen Gate
I hope this message finds you well. I have received your petition and empathize with your request. As we navigate ongoing changes in our world, student safety remains our top priority. After careful consideration and in consultation with Katy ISD safety and security, we have decided not to reopen the gate located at the intersection of Spruce Tree Line Trail and Coopers Ridge Way.
While I understand that this will impact your routines, please know that this decision is rooted in our commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all members of our school community. Although I know that this might not be the answer you were hoping for, I know that the community will continue to support the campus and our desire to put student safety first.
Thank you,
Kara Fox

Welcome our new Instructional Coordinator
Hello, I am Sharia Ballard, your new Instructional Coordinator! With 17 years of experience in education, this marks my fifth year in Katy ISD. Previously, I served as the Primary Instructional Coach at McRoberts Elementary, bringing a wealth of expertise from various leadership roles and teaching experiences across multiple grade levels and subjects. I am also in the house of Reveur. 💙
Currently, I am pursuing my doctorate in Educational Leadership. Outside of my professional life, I am an energetic and outgoing boy mom who enjoys staying active through workouts, bowling, and golfing.
I am excited to be a part of the Shark family!
