Forest Avenue School
May News
What is going on this Month!
We all are hoping to welcome spring this month. However those who have lived here for a few years know that there might be a very short spring and then a light switch goes on and summer has arrived. One day it is 40 degrees to 55 degrees. The next day it is 50 degrees to 75 degrees and summer has begun. Hopefully this all happens soon.
Our third graders are currently working hard in PARCC our state test. They will be working hard until May 13th.
Kiwanis Terrific Kid and Principal Awards will be held on Cinco de Mayo, May 5th, 7pm in the school cafeteria.
PTG meeting will be held at 6pm on May 5th in the school library. Please take the time to attend this meeting. We are looking for volunteers to head up our various school programs. School books fairs, yearbook staff, popcorn days and school store need volunteers.
The students have joined in to the monthly writing teams. They are writing opinion pieces on issues and items that deal with Forest Avenue School. This will go on all month and into June. We look forward to the students reading their pieces over the loud speaker at morning announcements.
The Annual Fishing Derby will begin at 3pm on Friday May 6th. This will run until Sunday May 15th, at 5pm. We run this in conjunction with our PTG and Sam's Bait Shop on Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. You can fish anywhere and anytime to be part of the tourney. You register with Sam at his Bait and Tackle Shop. Our community Fishing Day is Sunday May 15th from 1pm to 4pm at the spillway/dam below Aquidneck School. Parking is available there or at the Paradise Business right next door.
Popcorn days are May 6th and the 20th.
School Store is open for grades 1 and 3 on May 11th and May 25th for grades K and 2.
Grade 3 goes to the Art Museum in Newport on May 23rd.
There is "no school" on May 30th Memorial Day.

Please check out our new Forest avenue Website. It is up and running with many links to various school activities rules and regulations. It will be a work in progress for the remainder of the year. We are thrilled with the new design.
Student Placements for Next Year
We highly recommend that parents discuss their child's classroom placement for next year with their current teacher. The student's current teacher knows more about your child's ability and temperament than you think. They are the best person to share your thoughts with regarding classroom placement. They have the ability to place your child in the appropriate classroom. The current district and school policy is that we do not allow for parent classroom placement requests.
Forest Avenue School has a highly mobile student population. We wait until the final weeks of summer to properly balance classrooms so that all students and teachers have the best chance for academic success.
