Meet Havel’s Kaleidoscope Winner!
Every fall The Michigan Reading Association sponsors a writing contest that allows every school in the state of Michigan to submit a student’s writing piece to be professionally published. We are very proud to share that Rosalia was chosen as the 2020 winner!
Rosalia wrote about the pandemic, the changes that were made due to it and how it affected her. She stated only a few other people wrote about the pandemic. When asked how she felt about being a winner and being able to participate in the conference, she expressed “I feel very happy because I was able to achieve one of my goals.” She said that her goal had been to become a better writer because she felt that she was not a very good writer back in 4th grade.
On Sunday, she took part in a zoom conference with other winners from across the state. During their conference the students met author Jarrett Lerner, who discussed his experiences with both writing and drawing children’s books. He also lead the participants through some brainstorming exercises. All winners will have their writing pieced published in a book and will receive a copy. They will also be interviewed by podcaster, Parker Cole, who will be compiling all interviews into a podcast.
Congratulations Rosalia we are so proud of you!! #havelstrong
Safety Protocols - As a school, we will continue following the protocols that are important to keeping everyone safe, including encouraging frequent hand washing, use of sanitizers, distancing to the extent possible, decreasing density in common areas, and wearing face masks. Cleaning practices will include common touch points sanitized every four hours and all classrooms cleaned nightly. These protocols are all detailed in the updated parent handbook that is on the district website.
Water Bottles
Students MUST bring a water bottle from home. Our drinking fountains are turned off for the safety of the children.
