Message from Principal Daubs
Enter the carline based on how you will exit the carline.
- If you turn LEFT on Oakdale when exiting, please use the INSIDE carline (this is the line that drops off at the median).
- If you turn RIGHT on Oakdale when exiting, please use the outside carline (this is the line that drops off next to the building)
We currently have cars that are switching lanes and this is not safe. We would hate for an accident to happen.
Thank you!
Iowa Women's Hawkeye Basketball Players Visit Wickham!
Our Wickham Wizards had the opportunity to meet four members of the Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Basketball Team during our Fall Assembly this week!
Kate Martin, Monika Czinao, Caitlin Clark, and Coach Jensen played games with our students, gave inspirational messages, and talked about the importance of putting academics first! We loved having them spread magic at our school today! Our Wickham Stars had the opportunity to partake in the High Five Challenge, Hanky Panky, Stack Attack, and Knockout!
Attendance Information
If your student will not be at school please make sure to let the office know. You can call the office at 319-688-1175 and leave a voicemail if no one answers or email macleod.emily@iowacityschools.org and schepanski.susan@iowacityschools.org
Save the Date!
You are invited to join us for our Wickham Winter Sing-along on Friday, December 23rd at 2:00 in the Wickham gym. It will include all Wickham students from Preschool through 6th grade. This is not a performance, but a time to come together as a Wickham family and sing some familiar, some new, and definitely some fun songs as one big Wickham community. More details will be coming soon, but please save the date!
It has been another great musical start to the school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stiegelmeyer

Miss Kona had many duties on her duty day, including leading our Fall Assembly, making important announcements, reading to classrooms, and most importantly- spreading magic at Wickham!
A message from our Student Ambassadors:
Dear Wickham families,
Have you ever found an old toy your child doesn’t play with anymore? Here is one solution: take time out of your day and drive to a thrift shop. What if you don’t have the time? We have a great solution for you!!
The Wickham Student Ambassadors are conducting a toy drive. All toys will be donated to Houses into Homes. Houses into Homes is a local organization that turns empty houses into cozy homes and donates toys, beds, couches, chairs, tables, lights, and other necessities to people in need.
The toy drive will be from November 28th- December 9th. Please have your child(ren) bring in new or gently used toys.
List of example toys (toys are not limited to these):
Books (we have a high request for graphic novels and books for grades 4th-8th interests,) fidgets, family games, dolls, stuffed animals, baby toys that are in good condition, barbies, Legos, K’Nex, art supplies, action figures & superheroes (top requested item right now.)
School Wide Donation Goals:
If we reach 400 toys donated, there will be a comfy day where kids get to wear PJs and bring blankets + stuffed animals to school.
If we reach 600 toys, there will be a game day where your child(ren) get(s) to bring their favorite games to school.
If we reach 800 toys, Houses into Homes will provide pizza for a pizza party.
If we reach 1000+ toys, there will be a surprise for the whole school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email: holmes.stacy@iowacityschools.org
Thank you for helping us to help others in need!
One Book Two Book Festival Writing Contest
Students in grades 1-8 in Iowa City-Cedar Rapids Corridor area school districts, or home school students in those equivalent grades, are encouraged to submit one page of writing for the 2023 One Book Two Book festival from the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature. This can be any type of writing: story, essay, poem, song lyric, graphic novel page, etc. The piece must be an original work, written this school year, and in polished form – ready for publication. Submissions that are longer than one page will not be considered. The deadline to submit is Monday, December 12, 2022. Please find more information at www.iowacityofliterature.org/onebooktwobook/
Forgotten Items
We know that students will occasionally forget items at home that parents will drop off throughout the day. In an effort to minimize classroom disruption, the office will only take critical items down right away. All other items received will be communicated through email to classroom teachers and they will send students down at a nonessential break time.
What's Happening in November at Wickham...
A Note from the Health Office
The Iowa City Community School District has a protocol in place for sending and keeping children home from school when they are ill. We follow this protocol to make sure that children are given an adequate amount of time and rest to get well before returning to school and to prevent the spread of germs to other children and school staff. Please help to keep the schools in the Iowa City Community School District healthy environments by following these simple rules:
- Keep your child home from school when he/she has a fever of 100.4 (F) or greater and for 24 hours after the fever has gone away, without taking Tylenol or ibuprofen.
- Keep your child home from school when he/she has diarrhea and/or vomiting and for 24 hours after these symptoms have occurred.
- When your child returns to school after an illness he/she should be able to participate in the total school program including outdoor recess and physical education. Your child will be excused from outside recess and physical education after an illness only by a written recommendation from your family doctor or primary health care provider.
- Please be sure the school has a telephone number where you can be reached in case your child becomes ill at school. Call the school if your child will not be attending school because of illness
After-School Activities/Transport Changes
Parents, please continue to communicate with the school office at least 30 minutes prior to dismissal each day with any changes to your child's transportation or after-school activity. Prior to the dismissal, the office will send a note directly to your child stating the change and who it came from. Calling early ensures that your child will be prepared after school!
You can call the office at 319-688-1175 or email macleod.emily@iowacityschools.org
