Too Much Tension
Strategies to Help Your Student Cope With Anxiety
Research shows that nearly one-third of American adolescents will meet criteria for an anxiety disorder by age 18 and many more exhibit anxious symptoms. With phobias and separation anxiety being the primary aspects for young children - and social anxiety emerging for older students - there are many ways that anxious feelings and behaviors are present in our homes and schools.
Our speakers for these sessions are Molly Wimbiscus, M.D. (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist) and Ashley Penman, LISW-S (Clinical Social Worker), both with the Cleveland Clinic. They are known for their warm and easy-to-understand presenting style, paired with a wealth of experience working with our Lakewood students and families. We are confident you will leave the session with greater understanding of anxiety and ideas for how to help a student experiencing the symptoms.
