College Hills Elementary PTO
April 2017
A Message from Mr. Hatfield
Dear College Hills Parents & Guardians,
March was an exciting month at College Hills! Some of our highlights were the Book Fair, 1st grade Seussical, Kinder Western day, Spring Pictures, PJ day to raise money for the United Way Youth Cabinet, Spring Break and we finished the month with an amazing Paw Print Festival. The month flew by and now we have less than 8 weeks left. Make sure to check out the campus calendar for all our end of year activities and mark your calendars where needed. On a safety note, we want to make sure everyone knows that the city passed a "No parking, standing or stopping zone from here to the corner" ordinance at this past month's meeting. The signs are now in place at Gilchrist and Williams. This will help student safety when using the cross walk and the buses as they turn onto Williams St. Also, remember there are no left hand turns into the parking lot during drop off and dismissal.

Would you like to be more involved next year?
At College Hills, we aim for many hands make light work. We are committed to helping each other and understand life is busy. If you are interested in a board position or in partnering up with an existing board member, we would love to have you.
PTO BOARD POSITION CHANGES
Each year, we say goodbye to many long time serving PTO Board members as families graduate or move from College Hills. New faces not only serve to make the new school year run more smoothly, but also help to keep information and experience common knowledge from year to year. If you would like to be more involved at College Hills, please consider these options:
1. Assist an existing board member or committee. We are committed to keeping PTO commitments doable. Many board members will have plenty of institutional memory, but not plenty of time next year. New faces are key to helping existing members continue their commitment. We'd be happy to contact with options to find the best fit for your schedule and needs.
2. Help to fill priority vacancies for 2017-2018:
- Beginning of School Year Welcome (1 volunteer needed) An ideal position for a current Kinder parent ready to greet next year's new families through the Pancake Playdate and Boo Hoo Breakfast. Peak work time is the last week of (this) April and mid August.
- Fall Fundraising Committee (1-3 volunteers needed) While the Paw Print Festival is our signature fundraiser, fall fundraising is important to fill budget needs earlier in the year and relieve the pressure of depending on a single fundraiser. The committee will have the PTO's sincere appreciation for the fundraising method that meets their available time and efforts. Peak work time is September & October.
- Yearbook (2 volunteers needed) Collect photos year round, create the layout and content for the yearbook and work with balfour.com to organize orders and distribution in the spring. Peak work time is February & March.
PTO Dads are beyond great!
Our PTO balances work & family.
Littles welcome!
4th grade parents needed for 2017-2018 Oakwood PTO
We are looking to fill a few more board positions on the Oakwood PTO next year. Our board currently meets either the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday at lunchtime.
- VP/President Elect: VP for 2017/18 & President for 2018/2019. VP also currently coordinates the former student scholarship committee.
- Fall Fest: Silent Auction (1 or 2 Positions): Solicit donations and manage the silent auction during our Fall Festival, including the Teacher auction. Fall Fest is primarily about bringing our Oakwood family together for a fun evening; money raised at the auction is a bonus.
- PE Support (1 open Position): Work with PE Coaches to coordinate snacks and volunteers for a 5K in the Fall, and the Jump Rope & Hoops 4 Hearts in the Spring.
- Game Day Parking (1 open position for an incoming 5th grade parent): Parking for TAMU home Football games is currently Oakwood's primary annual fundraiser. We need a 2nd parent able to work 4-5 of the home games next year, as well as help coordinate a volunteer team for each game. Staff and parents are happy to help with this efficient fundraiser. Depending on kick-off time, we work ~4 hours before game time. Great role for a parent not able to help as much during the weekdays!
- Workroom Coordinator (1 position): Help in the teacher workroom and coordinate the other workroom volunteers (we have many returning worker bees!). Act as the primary contact to the PTO and the administration regarding workroom needs.
Thank you for supporting our students and our schools! For more information please contact Kimberly McAdams at kirkham_mcadams@yahoo.com
Note the addition of Gilchrist traffic signs
As our attendance rate has increased, it is hoped that this year's new designation of both a drop off and a parking lane has helped to accommodate more parents who wish to escort their children to their classrooms. As our parking lot can fill up during peak times, the highlighted parking area below may be a helpful alternative for those arriving in the minutes just before school starts. To utilize these parking spots, a vehicle will need to be in the drop off line temporarily. The car rider line may have cleared by the time a parent walks back to their vehicle since school has started. They may then be able to back out of the parking spot without any obstruction.

With remind & Facebook, parents can receive helpful reminders and interesting news where it is most convenient.
We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy. We'd rather spend our money on the kids:)
