Lead Learner Highlights
Dear KP Families,
We've reached the first quarter mid-point. Please use this as an opportunity to connect with your child about their current progress to celebrate their wow areas, and discuss a plan of action for any struggles they may be encountering. Teachers welcome the opportunity to work with you in support of student success. Our official conference days will be November 14, 15, and 16. Conference advisors will be reaching out to you next week to schedule times for your conferences (please see your email or our website for information regarding our student-led conference format).
As you peruse this week's newsletter, please look for information our on our school goals and focus areas for the year based on last year's survey data, picture day news, a Donor's Choose opportunity, and ways to support an upcoming dance.

Student & Family Opportunities
In an effort to support lifelong readers and in collaboration with the West Hartford Public Library, we are happy to announce on 10/25 staff from WH Public Library will be at King Philip to register and distribute library cards to interested 8th graders. Student's will need to complete a brief form with their name, address, phone and home email and then they will get their library card that day .
A WH Public Library card will allow them access to all the services and programs that the public library has to offer - including print / ebooks, databases, and the WH Library Minecraft server.

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
