Spring 2024
Happy Spring!
The leaves are beginning to bud on the trees and the flowers are starting to bloom, with the spring renewal also comes seasonal allergies. If your child experiences seasonal allergies, be sure to follow any seasonal allergy preventative treatment that your child's pediatrician has recommended to keep the itchy eyes and runny noses at bay. For updated guidelines of when to keep your child home, please see our website here.
On behalf of the SPS RN Team, we are grateful for the partnership of our students parents/guardians, staff and community partners.
With gratitude,
Danielle Gallan, MSN-PH, FNP-C
Bike and Helmet Safety
Make sure bicycles are in good working order. Check the bike for size (handlebars
and seat adjustments) as your child may have grown since they last rode it. Ensure that brakes and gears are in good working order. Teach your child to ride with the traffic and to use hand signals for turning and stopping.
Helmets prevent 85% of head injuries. Have your child wear a helmet when riding a scooter, skateboard, or bicycle, so that your child can protect their head.
How to fit your child’s helmet:
Put the helmet on your child’s head.
The front straps go under the chin and make a V under the ears. Rear straps should be flat against the head.
Ask your child to open their mouth as wide as possible. Tighten the straps until the helmet does not move around the head. One finger should fit between the chin and the chinstrap when your child’s mouth is closed.
