PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
I think we had all anticipated a potential extension of Alert Level 4, and yesterday the Prime Minister confirmed this. The Alert Level will be reviewed on Friday afternoon, but for now, Alert Level 4 will remain in place until 11:59 pm Friday 27 August. Let's hope Friday afternoon brings some good news for regional NZ and we can be back to some sort of normality in the coming days.
I want to thank our staff, students and wonderful community for your support over what is a challenging time for many. It is great to see the many exciting things that are taking place on Seesaw and the quality time you are spending with your children. One of the real benefits of lockdown.
On Facebook yesterday I posted a wonderful example of a student agency when I came across five-year-old HNP student William Walter and his family collecting rubbish on Brookvale Road. William's Mum, Heather, told me that after their walk the other day William was so concerned about the amount of rubbish in the drains he asked if they could go back and pick it up.
What a tremendous act of service William. We are very proud of you. Thanks, Heather and Rob for supporting him with this good deed.
Finally, we know some families in our community may be finding it difficult to access food and essential items such as medicine. This information about how to access food or essential items summarises the support that is available, including financial help to buy food.
Please do take care and let us know how we can best support you and your whānau. Kia kaha!
Ngā mihi

LOCKDOWN CHALLENGES GOING STRONG!
Room 4 is currently leading the Cross Country training leaderboard with the 'most km's walked / jogged / run,' but there are now some other rooms sniffing at their heels. Keep an eye on the leaderboards for both Planks and Cross Country, I will update them daily. (Pic on the left is Mrs Cooper with her sons Izzy and Jonah - amazing effort!)

2021 PEAK TRAIL BLAZER Update
Peak Trail Blazer Update
It’s great to see all our children creating some amazing slogan entries for this year's Peak Trail Blazer. Those creative juices are really flowing and we are excited to see all the entries this Friday, which will be the final day to get entries into the school office. The winning slogan will be printed on the front of 500 t-shirts which are worn as school uniform in term 4 and also by the Peak Trail Blazer competitors. This year the t-shirt will be navy blue and we are looking for three words, three syllables to print on the front. We have already received hundreds of entries and remember numbers are capped for the Tainui Trail, so if you don’t want to miss out please ensure you enter early, to avoid any disappointment. We will only be doing one t-shirt order and orders will need to be in by the last week of term 3. If you would like to order a t-shirt for your child to wear next term, you can purchase it online at https://eventplus.net/PTB21
The Peak Trail Blazer is one of our main fundraising events. If anyone would like to help or support the Peak Trail Blazer in any way please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or email peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz
