This Week's Thursday Thoughts!
November 10, 2022
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held the week of November 28th - December 2nd, with a few scheduled on November 21st and 22nd.
Please keep in mind the importance of arriving on time for your Parent/Teacher Conference, as they are often scheduled back to back and the tardiness of one parent can back up all of the future conferences.
News From the Nurse...
Hello Families,
I am writing today to update you about increases in respiratory illness in infants and children. Most of these illnesses are seasonal and are caused by respiratory viral infections such as RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), rhinovirus and enterovirus (colds), and flu. Children are especially susceptible to seasonal viruses during the fall and winter.
The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are taking steps to minimize the spread. Here are some steps to help prevent illness and stay healthy:
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Cough or sneeze into your sleeve
Avoid social gatherings if you or your child is sick
Stay home if you or your child is sick, especially if they have a fever, with a cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, congestion, runny nose or sore throat. Call your doctor or go to the emergency room if you or your child has difficulty breathing.
Children and Staff may return to school once they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (i.e. Tylenol or Ibuprofen) and are no longer feeling sick. We recommend that a mask be worn if they continue to cough until the cough has resolved.
Wipe high touch surfaces with household disinfectant frequently. We are doing this in all schools.
Call your doctor if your child needs medical care.
If your child is diagnosed with RSV, they may return to school once they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and they are no longer feeling sick. If your child tests positive for Covid-19, they will need to remain home in isolation for 5 days and may return on day 6 as long as symptoms have improved and they do not have a fever.
If you have any questions, please call your School Nurse. You can also email me at joneil@cpsge.org, or call me at 413 454-2955.
Sincerely,
Joyce O’Neil, MBA, BSN, RN

Reminder...
Help Make Your Child an Attendance Hero!
Well...an Attendance Hero is a child that is Here Everyday Ready to Learn and On Time!
We start school each day when the first bell rings at 8:30 AM. All children make their way directly to class where they start their day with breakfast and Morning Meeting. When your child is tardy, they miss out on part of their morning routine. So, when you sign them in after 8:40, they have already missed the first 10 minutes or more of their day. Picture how you feel when you walk into a movie theater ten minutes after the movie has started...that's how your child feels when they are late to school.
So...get your kiddos to bed a little earlier and wake them up a few minutes sooner, so they can become Attendance HEROs!!
Parent's Night Out...Kid's Night In Event
Take advantage of this great opportunity!
Put your kiddos in their jammies...pack their sleeping bag or blanket...and don't forget their favorite stuffy! Then drop them off for a viewing of Finding Nemo!
Feed them dinner beforehand, but no need to send a snack. Your little fishies will get a choice of Goldfish Crackers or popcorn, Swedish Fish and a bottle of water!
