Magness Creek Elementary
September 2017
We have gotten off to a wonderful start to the 2017-2018 school year. Everyone has worked really hard to make it successful. Teachers have gotten their students into routines and are not working on some beginning of the year assessments. Before we know it, it will be time for our first Parent Conference Days!
Book Fair
Our Fall Book Fair will run from September 20th - 27th. Each class will have an opportunity to go to the Book Fair. Mrs. Adkins will also have it open before and after school for parents that would like to come up and shop with your child. You will be getting more information about our Book Fair. If you can volunteer some time to help work the Book Fair, please get with Mrs. Adkins.
Grandparents Day
One of our favorite times of the year is Grandparents Day! Our 2 days set aside for Grandparents Day are Thursday, September 21st and Friday, September 22nd. If grandparents are not able to come, it is also Special Friend Day. If this is the case, please let your child's teacher know in advance so we know who will be in our building. PTO always does a fabulous job with Grandparents Day. They will be sending out more information soon.
CHS Homecoming
On Friday, September 29th the high school will be having their Homecoming. All Cabot Public Schools will be dismissing at 2:00 that day. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 3:30. It starts on Pine Street down close to Southside Elementary and ends at Central Elementary. We will send reminders that school gets out early that day.
Hurricane Harvey Relief
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church is coordinating a local effort to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. They are partnering with an organization in Houston that has experience in helping people through disasters. The schools are working with them to be a drop off point for needed items. They only items that are taking are:
Blankets
Toiletries
Hygiene products
Cleaning Supplies
Baby items - diapers, wipes, and formula bottles
Bottled Water
Toilet paper
Canned food items (non perishable)
Paper towels
Cloth bath towels
If you would like to contribute any of these items, you may drop them off at school by September 14th. Someone will collect the items from school on September 15th and they will be transported to the Houston area on August 16th.
