School Board Connection
The 2019-20 calendar has a start date of August 12 for teachers and August 19 for students. Exams will be administered December 16-19. Winter Break is scheduled for December 23-January 3. April 6-10 is the week of break. Graduation dates are May 27, Wilson (half-day); May 28, South Florence (half-day) and May 29, West Florence High (half-day) The last day of school for students is May 29 with teacher workdays on June 1 and June 2.

Calling Male Role Models
All Positive Male Role Models of our community are asked to visit Williams Middle School on Thursday, February 21st for a few moments.
"We are asking men to come visit the school to allow our students to become acquainted with some of the positive male role models the Florence Community," said Sam Fryer, program organizer. Male role models are invited at any time; however our program will officially start at 11:45 a.m.," he added.

Florence 1 Schools to Celebrate Black History Month with National Touring Company Performance
In celebration of Black History Month, Florence 1 Schools will present “Let it Shine: The American Civil Rights Movement," a performance by Bright Star Touring Theatre, at the three middle schools on the following dates:
Wednesday, Feb. 20th - Williams Middle School @ 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 20th - Sneed Middle School @ 2 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 21st – Southside Middle School @ 10 a.m.

District One's Vocal Star Competition is Tuesday, February 19
Florence One has announced the date for District One’s Vocal Star competition. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 19 at the SiMT Building on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College.
The competitions will consist of performances from each age division (elementary 5:00 p.m., middle, 6:15 p.m. and high, 7:30 p.m.) with a winner named from each division.
Performing Arts Coordinator Laura Greenway invites the community to share in the excitement of this showcase of District Ones vocal talent.
“The opportunity students experience in this competition teaches skills through music performance that will enhance their entire life”.

Dr. Ronald E, McNair, a NASA astronaut who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion, was born in Florence County.
World-renowned jazz guitarist Ezra Brown, a Florence native, is the owner of Soule' Cafe in downtown Florence. He welcomes musically talented youth to perform and encourages them to reach their potential.
