Have an Amazing Weekend!
Dear Kennebunk High School Families:
I hope that you all have had a great week. It was our 1st five day week of the school year. It was an adjustment for students and staff, but we got through it. I've said this before, but I'm loving how the year has started. I'm very pleased with our school community and how they have begun their year. It's impressive to see the maturity and respect in the building.
You will see in this newsletter the announcement of our National Merit Scholar Semifinalists. I'm so pleased to say that we have three students this year. If you look at Maine there are only seven total schools in Maine with at least three semifinalists and of the these only three (including KHS) are public schools.
You will also see some notes from Officer Champlin below. This is very important information that he would like families to pay attention to.
Student Parking:
Student vehicles must be registered with Officer Champlin. If your student has not registered their vehicle and been given a parking pass please click HERE. Please make sure to read the information associated with the application.
Picture Day:
Picture day was Tuesday. You can use the form or order online (mylifetouch.com) with the picture day ID (EVT96P7PR). To order or pay after picture day - you will need to find your Portrait ID and Access Code which is unique to each student. These will be on your proofs or order sheet. Picture retakes will be October 26th
Financial Aid:
Please click on the KHS Daily Bulletin button above. There is information with regard to applying for financial aid that will be important for all Seniors.
Reminders:
Each Wednesday is a Late Start so that staff can have some time for professional development. Classes start promptly at 9:00 AM. Please plan ahead for additional traffic to the high school at this time of day.
Twitter:
Twitter is something that I have tended to use throughout my career. If you would like to follow for updates please go to @principalkhs.
KHS Seniors Among National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
KHS Seniors Among National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
KENNEBUNK, MAINE – September 14, 2022 - The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced Kennebunk High School (KHS) Seniors Noah Manning, Eamon McGlashan, and Janelle Powell among the National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test, which served as the initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Manning, McGlashan, and Powell are among 16,000 Semifinalist Students throughout the nation being recognized for their academic promise. Semifinalist students placed among the top 16,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level, and in February they will be notified of this designation.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist(s) and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, and write an essay.
“This year we are extremely fortunate to have three National Merit Scholar Finalists,” said KHS principal Jeremie Sirois. “Manning, McGlashan, and Powell are exceptional students and people and it’s great to see them be recognized with this amazing accomplishment.”
Manning, McGlashan, and Powell are pictured below
Notes from SRO Champlin
When leaving campus traffic backs up. Please do not cut through the faculty parking lot in order to bypass all the cars ahead of you, it is dangerous and it simply is not right. While we only had one identified case of passing on the right, please understand that the road adjacent to the faculty parking lot is one lane. Please do not pass on either side. Lastly, please, please make sure you come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
New Suicide & Crisis Hotline
Additionally, here in RSU 21 we subscribe to Say Something which is a free application that can be used to alert us if you are concerned for the safety of a fellow student.

PSAT
Kennebunk High School is once again generously offering the PSAT this year on October 12th, 2022. It is optional, but there are at least two reasons your student might want to sign up. First, it is good practice for the SAT, which we will also offer later this year. Not all schools are requiring the SAT for admission, but some still do, so it can save you money. Second, the PSAT doubles as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), so by taking the test, students may be automatically recognized for their achievement with a scholarship.
Your students can sign themselves up, but if you want to take care of this for them, please complete this form by 10/1/22.

Visiting Colleges & Universities
In order to attend, you must sign-up through Naviance and also talk with your teacher about missing some of your academic class on the day of the visit(you will need a pass from them to attend). Most teachers will be flexible if it is discussed in advance but you may not be able to attend due to a test or other special circumstances. No worries, if you let guidance know you are interested in the school but can't attend the information session, we are happy to collect materials from the meeting and pass along contact information for the representative. Believe it or not, colleges keep track of how many times you connect with the college either through a college fair, campus visit or school information session, so use this opportunity to your benefit. It displays your interest in the college and could impact your admission decision.
A few of the visits are actually virtual and you will still need to sign-up for these meetings through Naviance. If you are in school at the time and will need a place to take part in the meeting, let the guidance office know in advance and we will do what we can to find you a place to sit while the meeting is in session.
Below is the current list of schools scheduled to visit but the list is constantly changing and if you don't see the name of a school you are interested in, please stop by guidance and let us know.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
