Nurse's Office Reminders
The nurse's office would like to remind parents of the following health situations when deciding whether to send in or keep their child home from school due to illness.
Fevers: any temperature 100.4 or above. A student should be home, able to return to school when fever free without any medication for 24 hours, and symptoms improved. Contact the child's physician if the fever continues.
Vomiting/and or Diarrhea: Students with vomiting or diarrhea should be kept home and free of illness for 24 hours/and or able to keep solid food down before returning to school. *It is also a good idea to send in an extra pair of clothes/underwear in your child’s school bag every year in case this occurs at school
Pink Eye: Students with red and discharging eyes should be kept home and seen by their doctor for a diagnosis. If drops are prescribed, students should be on drop medication for 24 hours before returning to school with a doctor's note to clear them back to school. *Please follow the doctor's directions for medicated eye drops on how often and how long the drops are needed as prescribed by the physician written in the instructions on the bottle. Stopping antibiotics too early can cause re-infection or present contagious to other students.
Any student with a suspected infectious disease (i.e.: Flu, strep throat, mono, covid, rashes, pink eye) should be kept home and followed up with a doctor before a return to school.
Thank you kindly for helping us keep all of our students, staff, and families healthy & safe!
Valentine's Day Community Care Event
Don't Miss our Valentine's Day Community Care Event!
We would love to show some care to some special seniors in our community for Valentine's day this year. Please join together and spread some encouragement to the residents of Gwynedd Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
The Gwynedd Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center is a senior home near Gwynedd Square Elementary. In addition to their English-speaking population, they also have a unique program for Korean-speaking seniors!
Students and families are encouraged to create a Valentine’s Day card with a thoughtful and encouraging message for a senior citizen in the home. Cards do not need to be specific to a resident, although it would be nice to have some Korean language-specific cards, if possible. Please see attached document for further details! Cards will be collected to deliver at the end of the day on Feb 14th.

Black History Month
Resources for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2023- Monday, January 16th
The resources above are designed to:
Provide history of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Expand our collective understanding of the 32 years journey that led to the recognition of the King holiday in all 50 states
Provide a more comprehensive picture of the social and political context surrounding Dr. King and his work
Spotlight men and women who worked closely with Dr. King and played an instrumental role in the civil rights movement although their names and stories are not well-known
Provide additional resources (primary sources and videos) and lesson plans to enrich the content that is currently being taught
Before you check out the resources, here are a few facts about Martin Luther King, Jr. Did you know?
Dr. King’s name at birth was Michael. The civil rights activist was born Michael King, Jr. His father, Michael King, Sr. visited Germany in 1934 and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader, Martin Luther. King Sr. began calling himself and eventually, his son– Martin Luther King.
From 1957 to 1968, King traveled over 6 million miles and spoke over 2,500 times.
Dr. King was expelled from school in first grade because he did not meet the age requirements but later skipped 9th and 12th grades and entered Morehouse College at 15 years of age.
There are approximately 900 streets named after MLK in the U.S. Seventy percent of the streets can be found in Southern states, including Alabama, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, and North Carolina.
Dr. King won a Grammy posthumously for Best Spoken Word Recording at the 13th Grammy Awards in 1971 for “Why I Oppose the War in Vietnam.” He was nominated for Grammys twice before he won this award.
