Carmel Middle School
February 2017
Happy 2017! We had a short December to round out the year in here, and it was fairly quiet in January due to NWEA testing. Fortunately, plenty of teachers took advantage of the testing-free days in here for checkouts and book talks. I look forward to more action in the Media Center this month!
Check out the stats from the past couple months below.
December
25 class visits to the Media Center computer lab
39 class visits to the Media Center to check out materials or work at tables
1,801 passes issued for students to visit the Media Center during the day
1,916 books circulated
10 students eligible to vote for the YHBA winner in May!
10 books given away in the "Cite It to Win It" contest!
*December was only 2 weeks long for students due to Winter Break
January
9 class visits to the Media Center computer lab
66 class visits to the Media Center to check out materials or work at tables
1,201 passes issued for students to visit the Media Center during the day
3,367 books circulated
16 students eligible to vote for the YHBA winner in May!
*NWEA testing took over the Media Center lab for most of January
YHBA Contest
At the end of April, the team with the highest average number of YHBA nominees read wins a party during Core+. As an extra incentive, there is an extra contest happening during February. In February only, there will be weekly drawings for students who have turned in "I Read It!" slips. Students receive the same number of entries as slips turned in, so more books read means more chances to win. Each week, several winners will get a FREE book!

Listen Up!
- Check out the audiobook selection in the CMS Media Center. We have CDs and Playaways available for checkout. Playaways are pre-loaded audiobook players (1 book is loaded per player) - they are great for car rides, something to listen to during breaks in long weekend activities, and for winding down at night.
- Visit the Carmel Clay Public Library's Overdrive collection (available here). If you are new to Overdrive, visit the link here for information about getting started. No CCPL card? No problem! Any student in Carmel Clay Schools is eligible. Simply stop by the first floor of the CCPL to get your card or stop by the CMS Media Center for an application.
