Green Knight of the Quarter
Nora Spellacy is a third grader at Saint Paschal Baylon who was selected as our next Green Knight of the Quarter! Sweet and kind are two words several teachers used to describe Nora. She sets a positive example for her classmates by being kind, cooperative, and helpful, and she lends a hand to those around her without being asked. In her nomination, Mrs. Uzzo said, “Nora is a Green Knight because of the respect and kindness that she always shows towards other people...She notices when others need help and is always willing to assist them. Nora is often caught with a smile on her face. She is genuinely happy and enjoys learning. Nora's Green Knight qualities shine through in the classroom as well as on the playground.”
Nora lives with her parents, Shannon and Brian, and her brother Cian who is in seventh grade.
Nora clearly loves her family, and they like attending sporting events and traveling together. Nora enjoys playing volleyball and has participated in Irish dancing for a couple of years. She has spent the last several weeks visiting nursing homes and other places with her group to bring the joy of dance to them. When asked about her favorite subject, Nora shared that she likes reading because she feels as if she is going on an adventure with the characters. In the future, Nora would like to be an author. Right now she creates mini-recipe books, and her parents and brother love taste-testing her fabulous creations. When asked about Nora, her dad shared that she genuinely cares for others and always asks how his day went. Cian said his sister is always smiling, and she is willing to help others. Her mom added, “She’s the perfect Green Knight. The way Nora treats others at school is just how she treats others at home and in public. She is just sweet! Sweet like her desserts!” .
Kind, polite, helpful, and happy were words repeatedly used to describe Nora. Mrs. McMurdo, Mrs. Yanick, and Mrs. Miller all mentioned that Nora consistently greets them with a smile. They also shared that she is an excellent student who is always prepared for class. Mrs. Longano wrote, “For a young girl, Nora displays many of the characteristics of a true Green Knight. She is a leader in the classroom setting an example for her peers. She always tries to please her teachers and is willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. She is has a kind and gentle soul who is a pleasure to have in the classroom!” Mrs. Kitko shared that Nora always tries to help her classmates succeed as well. She summed it up perfectly by writing, “Nora is a joy to know!” Congratulations, Nora, on this well-deserved honor!
2019 Scholastic Writing Awards
National medalists of the 2019 Scholastic Writing Awards have been announced, and one of the winners is 8th grader, Samantha Mailer. She was a Gold Key winner for the region, and her short story entitled, “Down by the River,” was advanced for national consideration. She now has won the 2019 Scholastic Writing Silver Medal Award. Nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were submitted and judged by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Receiving a National Medal Award places Samantha within the top 1% of all submissions. Saint Paschal Baylon School is proud of this talented, deserving creative writer!

We want to extend our sincere thanks to Mrs. Iryna Kulick for all of the time and effort she has put into preparing our students for the various science fairs. There are so many things that she does behind the scenes to organize, register, and coordinate all of it, and we are grateful to her for making these opportunities available to our students. We also want to extend thanks to our parents for supporting their children throughout this process.

Playground/Lunchroom Supervision-Primary Grades
The links to sign up for playground/lunchroom supervision for parents/guardians of students in grades Kindergarten-2 for the remainder of the school year are now live!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. Second Grade Parents/Guardians ROCK! There is only ONE TIME SLOT LEFT DURING MARCH! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 2, Grade 1, or Kindergarten.

Serve as a Family: The Ministry of Greeters
We’re creating a new ministry at SPB, and it’s an opportunity for whole families to minister together! Greeters will welcome people at the church entrances, hand out Worship Guides, and be a friendly face when guests need direction and guidance. Also a great way to earn service hours. If you’d like to help get this new ministry off the ground, contact Tony at tony@saintpaschal.com.
