CompSci Weekly
April 1, 2024- April 5, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Families,
I know I say this all the time, but it was a busy week! As nice as it is to have today off, the 4 day week just means we have to cram even more into those days. I myself was in Washington DC for the weekend and then into Monday and Tuesday, at a conference put on by one of our partners. Then conference was all about technology and it gave me and the team I brought lots of ways to enhance our theme. We have big plans for next year! This week we also had one of the 7th grade teams visit the New Britain Museum of American Art, and they not only learned a lot, they also behaved perfectly. Way to go 7A. Additionally, our Student Equity Team did some lessons in 6th grade TAC about Women's History month, check out our instagram for pictures.
Yesterday was a big treat for the school, and valuable lessons were learned as well. As a thank you from Central Office for all the work we did with the Senator Murphy visit we got a delivery of giant ice cream cookie sandwiches from Blue Chip Creamery, out of Glastonbury. This is what it looks like in middle school:
- 6th graders who are not able to eat ice cream TELL me that and get another treat, the rest enjoy the ice cream. Everyone is happy.
- 7th graders eat the ice cream, and many of them didn't eat their lunch and just eat the ice cream (not a super healthy choice, but one many adults made too!) Everyone is happy.
- 8th graders who believe they can do anything double down on the pizza and eat the entire ice cream. The ones who can't drink milk without tummy troubles discover ICE CREAM is made of MILK. Everyone is fine, but as I said, they learned some valuable lessons! ;)
I hope you enjoy the weekend, and if you celebrate Easter, then Happy Easter.
One more week until April break!

That’s why Oakland-based NAACP activist Kareem Weaver believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time and is fighting for better reading instruction. You are invited to attend an exclusive screening of the documentary film “The Right to Read’, followed by a panel discussion.
Save the date: Thursday, April 4th. Free & open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups.
