Represent your school district by applying for the Youth Advisory Council (YAC)!
Georgia School Boards Association's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is now accepting applications for 2024!
The YAC is a student leadership program formed by GSBA to give high school students the opportunity to provide meaningful input to school board members and aid them in their decision-making. In addition, YAC members will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and contribute to their community by affecting positive change for students across Georgia.
The first round of the application process is now open and will close March 25, 2024. You can find more information on expectations, meeting dates, eligibility and more in our initial information document. The application link is available on our website.
You could have the opportunity to represent your district at our 2024 Annual Conference in Atlanta!
End of Course Testing Information
Genes in Space Challenge
Students in grades 7-12 can design DNA experiments that address a challenge in space exploration.
Students can propose an experiment that utilizes at least one tool (fluorescence viewer, PCR, or BioBits) in the Genes in Space toolkit. Submissions will be judged by a panel of scientists and thought leaders on the creative and scientific merit of the experimental idea, as well as the ability to communicate the impact and important of this work (see sample scoring criteria). Students can win awards including a P51 Fluorescence Biotechnology Kit for their school and have the opportunity to launch their DNA experiment to the International Space Station!
Contest submissions are due by April 15
Physics
In Physics, as we began our unit in Electricity, students investigated electrostatics first-hand with a hair-raising experience on the Van de Graaf generator. The lesson involved basics on charge and the methods of charging. The Van de Graaf generator operates by using all methods of charging.
