Genius Hour
1. It all starts with a question! Have students come to the library with sticky notes, a large piece of butcher paper, and a pencil. Allow the them to browse through books to find topics that interest them and write down what they are wondering. Then they can stick their post it on the wonder wall.
2. Once you have a few sessions of writing down "wonders" then go through a mini lesson about how to narrow down your topic. I like to the tell the kids that when thinking of topics you like, you also have to make sure we have enough resources for it. The last thing you want to do is to print articles that are way above their reading level. That kind of takes the passion out of it.
3. Then it's time to dive into the meat- the RESEARCH!!
I LOVE Genius Hour and would love to take it on for your class. Let me know!
