6th Grade Wolverine Weekly
Week of March 21st-25th
College & Career ~ Ms. Parker, Mrs. Dickerson, and Mr. Thames
Monday and Tuesday we will be exploring simple interest.
Wednesday and Thursday we will be learning about compound interest
Both of these subjects are a continuation of our Financial Literacy unit
Pre-AP Science ~ Mrs. Goulding and Ms. Mondon
I can investigate how inclined planes and pulleys can be used to change the amount of force to move an object
I can contrast situations where work is done with different amounts of force to situations where no work is done such as moving a box with a ramp and without a ramp, or standing still.
Homework: Unit 4 Lesson 7 Notes posted in Classroom on Monday.
Academic Vocabulary: inclined planes, pulley, work.
Students will learn through creating an infomercial on their simple machines filming will be Thursday.
Pre-AP Math ~ Mrs. Justice
This week we will extend our previous knowledge of triangles and their properties. There will be a test over this material on Thursday.
Monday: Determining When Three Lengths Form a Triangle
Tuesday: Sum of Angle Measures in a Triangle
Wednesday: Relationships Between Sides and Angles in a Triangle
Thursday: Angles, Triangles, and Equations Test
Accelerated Math ~ Mrs. Baird
We will continue preparing for STAAR this week.
Students will have boot camp work Monday through Thursday. It will consist of 10 questions daily. Each will be graded the next day in class, students must come to class prepared.
Thursday will be a review test over this week's Boot Camp work (Days 1-6).
STEAM Science ~ Mrs. Cornell
We can calculate average speed using distance and time measurements.
We can measure and graph changes in motion.
Academic Vocabulary:
average speed
change
speed
motion
We will be working to understand how can measurements, calculations, and mathematical formulas & models be used to show the relationship between force and motion.
Weekly homework will be notes from Science Fusion Unit 4 Lessons 4 & 5 posted in Classroom on Monday.
Our Assessment will be Thursday over speed graphs and how to calculate speed and will include potential and kinetic energy.

In ELA this week:
Monday we will be learning about problem/solution text structures through our Achieve3000 article “A Free Ride to School”, as well as writing a personal narrative that goes with the topic of the article.
Remember, the Achieve3000 articles are being taken as a grade from the first try answers on the activity questions, though there is an alternative assignment if students fail their Monday articles.
Tuesday we will be reviewing for our nonfiction test by doing stations activities. We will be reading a short nonfiction text and then completing different types of questions, specifically detailing the standards addressed so far.
Wednesday the students will take their nonfiction test, demonstrating their ability to read, analyze, and make inferences on nonfiction texts using context clues to determine meanings of unfamiliar words. The test will be in Eduphoria.
Thursday we will be working in literature circles, moving towards wrapping up this unit. The students will be working with their groups on drafting novel quilts, which will be finished next week. This will be the last “reading day” for the literature circle unit.
The students will have the opportunity for extra credit for this six weeks or the next six weeks if they choose to complete their literature circle novels. These books are available at Half Price Books, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, libraries, and on Kindle and Nook.
In World Cultures this week we will begin our study of Africa. This week will be focused on Africa's physical geography.
Art ~ Mrs. Bishop
Students will be learning how to draw in perspective and how to advance to the levels that suite their knowledge and understanding. This could be using one, two or three vanishing points. We will practice drawing architecture, land, letters and basic forms. As additional extension, some students will be incorporating animation. These things will tie into graphic design applications. Their respective projects can also be planned and begun this week. The drawings could be anything from an old Victorian house to a movie poster in perspective. Student interest will be a huge component.
- This week is our District Art Show. March 22-24 it will be on view at the Brick. March 24th from 5:30-7:00 there will be a reception. Students whose work is chosen will be notified.
