Week of February 27th
5th Grade - Bottled Water Debate
The environment is always an important and relevant topic, and getting into the discussion of recycling can help students as they make informed decisions about how they can contribute to the issue.
We will be thinking about the topic of bottled water. First, students will be considering what they believe to be true, and will form an opinion. Next, students will consult a nonfiction article about bottled water, which they will use to confirm or change what they believe.
These skills will be helpful as student move into opinion writing in the spring.
4th Grade - Biographies
Students will read the biographies and practice taking notes using a timeline format. After taking notes on the life of the person, students will look at the events and connect a character trait to each event.
Some of the people we will be reading about include: Jane Goodall, Cesar Chavez, Elizabeth Blackwell, Neil Armstrong, Jacques Cousteau, and Diego Rivera.
3rd Grade - What makes a fairy tale a fairy tale?
Some of the stories we will be reading include: Baba Yaga and the Wise Doll (from Russia), The Cook & the King (from Brazil), and The Samurai's Daughter (from Japan).
