Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of October 17th, 2021
Message from the Principal
With the blink of an eye the month of October is coming to end! Through the challenges that we endure, know that what our staff do in the field of education helps to impact the lives of children and families, who we hope to one day reflect on the positive relationships built here at Davenport. We are forever grateful for the families that we service and the staff members that serve them!
As Bus Driver Safety Week concludes, we'd like to thank the drivers and our EHT Transportation Department for keeping our students safe while traveling the roads to and from school each day!
QOW: (Quote of the Week)
It takes but one positive thought when given a chance to survive and thrive to overpower an entire army of negative thoughts. Robert H. Schuller
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
1st Grade Students Practice Positivity
Miss McGroarty's 1st grade class has been learning about the social and emotional skills of growth mindset. Through books, videos and projects they learned all about how their brain is a muscle and that it gets stronger each time they try new or difficult tasks. Each week, students remind themselves of just how amazing they are by looking in the mirror and saying their weekly affirmation. This past week's affirmation was "I can do hard things". Miss McGroarty said "it's amazing to watch the class continue to grow in confidence and self-love each week"!
Flashlight Friday Fun
Mrs. Miles' and Miss Blauvelt's second grade class has been building their reading stamina. They reached their independent reading goal and celebrated with some Flashlight Friday reading!
GT Students Study Medieval Times
Ms. Scullion's GT students have been learning about Medieval Times. Students researched guilds/jobs of their choice and created their very own shop signs. They also built peasant houses out of clay and toothpicks to simulate straw and mud!
COUNSELORS' and RENAISSANCE TEAM CORNER

Principal, Mrs. White and student volunteers were busy organizing and stuffing bags to help celebrate National School Bus Safety Week. Many thanks to Davenport's Renaissance team, Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Pratt and Miss Ward for sponsoring this initiative!
