RECOGNITIONS
St. Cloud State University Mathematics contest
Becky Brodeur, associate superintendent of middle schools and student services, presented awards from the St. Cloud State University Mathematics contests.

Academic Growth Recognition awards
The School Board recognized Anoka-Hennepin students whose growth in math, reading, and/or language acquisition ranked in the top five percentile at each grade level, when comparing scores on the same assessments from the beginning to the end of the 2022-23 school year. The students recognized for this achievement include:

Brookside Elementary - 2022-2023 MESPA Leadership Award
Dr. Mary Wolverton, associate superintendent for elementary schools, presented Dr. Anissa Cravens, Brookside Elementary principal who received the 2022-23 Minnesota Elementary School Principal’s Association (MESPA) Leadership Award, North Suburban Division.
Business Professionals of America
Dr. Josh Delich, associate superintendent for high schools, introduced Business Professionals of America (BPA) advisors Holly Boisjolie from Blaine High School and Kari Hable from Champlin Park High School to recognize students who attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national competition:

AMSA Magnet Schools of America - Merit School of Excellence
Becky Brodeur, associate superintendent of middle schools and student services, presented Tom Hagerty, Anoka Middle School for Arts principal, and noted their national award of merit received from the Magnet Schools of America.
National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) - Best community for Music Education District
Dr. Josh Delich, associate superintendent of high schools; and Doug Schmitt, Schmitt Music; presented the Anoka-Hennepin School District with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from the National Association of Music Merchants. Anoka-Hennepin music teachers Candace Cooper, Rum River Elementary School music lead; and Ryan Palmer, Coon Rapids High School band director, accepted the award on behalf of the teachers and alongside members of the school board.
Project Lead the Way Distinguished School - Blaine High School
Dr. Josh Delich, associate superintendent of high schools, presented Jenny Birkmeier, Curriculum Integrator at Blaine High School. The School Board recognized Blaine High School and their Center for Engineering, Math and Science as a national distinguished school through Project Lead the Way. Over 12,000 schools in the nation are eligible for this honor and only four high schools in Minnesota received this distinction.

Dr. Josh Delich, associate superintendent of high schools, presented John Peña, principal, Coon Rapids High School as the school was honored for their Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering and with a distinguished school status from Project Lead the Way. Over 12,000 schools in the nation are eligible for this honor and only four high schools in Minnesota received this distinction.

COMMUNICATIONS, DELEGATIONS AND PETITIONS
The School Board received testimony from Tony Barbato, Mai Vang, Mark Duffy, Val Holthus, Robin Broen, Sarah Heem, Rod Kuehn and Melanie Tuttle.
EMPLOYEE SERVICES
The School Board took actions regarding employees and positions in the district in relation to a reporting timeline needed to comply with contracts and state requirements. Dr. Jennifer Cherry, executive director of human resources, presented items for approval and one item for information only. All items were approved on a unanimous vote.
Resolution relating to the termination and non-renewal of teaching contracts or probationary teachers.
The School Board approved the resolution in compliance with Minnesota Statute 122A.40, sub. 5. The action is considered a routine matter conducted annually by the board.
For information only: long-term substitute teachers, intern teachers, and re-employed retired teachers.
The board reviewed a listing of employees whose contracts with the district are due to expire at the end of the school year.
Resolution to rescind the inclusion of certain teachers’ names in resolution terminating probationary teachers.
The School Board reviewed terms and conditions of the resolution and approved the resolution on a unanimous vote.
ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION
Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Membership
Dr. Josh Delich, associate superintendent for high schools, requested School Board action to approve membership to the Minnesota State High School League for the 2023-24 school year which the board approved on a unanimous vote.
Naming of Facilities
Greg Cole, chief operations officer; Michelle Trelstad, executive director community education and government relations; Dr. Josh Delich, superintendent for high schools; and Heather Forse, principal, Regional High School, presented the naming facilities consistent with School Board Policy 809.0. The early learning facility in Blaine is recommended to be called the Blaine Early Childhood Center. With the move of Anoka-Hennepin Regional High School to the Sandburg Education Center, the recommendation is to change the name of the school to Sandburg Regional High School. The School Board will consider approval at an upcoming meeting.
FINANCE
FY24 Proposed Budget All Funds
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented the proposed fiscal year 2024 budget for the Anoka-Hennepin School District. The district is projecting a revenue increase of $45.2 million, or 7.2% percent, for the next fiscal year with an enrollment increase projected at 283 students. Expenditures are projected to increase by $25.9 million, or 4.4% percent. Transportation expenses, utilities and liability and property insurance rates are increasing, and investments made by using one-time federal funding that will be expended by the end of the school year. The fiscal year 2024 budget will be approved at the June 26 meeting.

Employee Discharge
Tim Palmatier, general counsel, proposed employee discharge executive session closed pursuant to Minnesota Statute 13D.05 Subd. 2 for preliminary consideration of allegations against an employee subject to the board’s authority.
Labor Negotiations
Dr. Jennifer Cherry, executive director of human resources; and Todd Menskink, director of labor relations and benefits; executive session closed pursuant to Minnesota Statute 13D.03 Subd. 1 to discuss labor negotiations.
