News from Band Land!
Mr. Hollenbaugh would like to thank Dr. Jeff Gershman, Director of Bands and Professor of Music at The College of Wooster, for visiting on Wednesday, March 6th as a guest clinician for the High School Concert Band! Dr. Gershman gave us excellent feedback and helped us prepare for our upcoming performance at the OMEA Large Group District Contest. The Concert Band will be performing Saturday March 9th at 10 AM on the stage of the Lawrence E. Griffin Performing Arts Center at Newark High School.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to attend the performance, but please note that any recording of the performance is prohibited as this will disqualify the band.
The Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble will celebrate Music In Our Schools Month with a concert in the Fredericktown Elementary Commons on March 12th at 7:30 PM. We hope to see you at one or both of these events!
Healthcare Expo March 13th
Students will be separated into four groups. They will rotate through four stations in different rooms, each dedicated to different healthcare career paths. There will be local healthcare professionals holding 20-minute interactive presentations about Nursing, Technicians, Office & Emergency Services, and Support Services. The goal of the event is to offer information about the diverse number of healthcare career pathways and how to connect with local education and employment opportunities to ensure students can make informed decisions about their future."

Signs of Suicide (SOS) Program
Fredericktown Local Schools, in collaboration with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, is providing the Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program (SOS) to all 9th grade students on Monday and Tuesday, March 11th and 12th. SOS is a school-based suicide prevention program supported by SAMHSA. The goal of the curriculum is to prevent and reduce suicidal behavior by expanding the safety net for students experiencing mental and emotional distress. The training uses a video to help guide classroom discussions.
SOS is a nationally-known suicide prevention program that parents and schools have found to be a very positive experience. It reduces the stigma of depression and lets students and adults know that they are capable of helping students in need of support. There is clear evidence that using a prevention program like SOS lowers the risk of a child making a suicide attempt and does not put the idea in a child’s mind.
However, we always respect parents’ rights to choose what is best for their child. If you do not wish for your child to participate in the program, please sign and return the opt out form.

Lunch Charges
There are many students who have outstanding lunch balances. If you owe fees please try to get these paid down as soon as possible. Transcripts will not be issued or sent for students who owe fees, nor will they participate in graduation practice or receive their diploma during graduation ceremonies.
Freddie Care Closet
The goal is to provide students with food, clothing or personal items while keeping it anonymous.
How it works:
- Students scan the QR code and an email is sent to one of the Counselors.
- The student will be called down to meet with the Counselor to discuss their needs.
- If the student is comfortable, the Counselor and student can walk together to the Care Closet or the student can share what they need and the Counselor will get it for them.
Supporting our Freddies
Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. We encourage everyone to actively participate in creating a nurturing environment that promotes open communication, empathy, and understanding. If you know a student who may need support, or if you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our social workers or school counselors. Working together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our students.
