April's Boomerang: Reading for Pleasure
We had 80 nominees for April's Boomerang Asset: Reading for Pleasure sponsored by CB Cares Educational Foundation! However, we could only nominate one student for district consideration... We nominated Sophia S.. At any free moment, Sophia can be found reading a new book. As early as second grade, her interest in reading took off and since then there has never been a week where her family has visited the library less than two times! Reading is something she enjoys with the whole family, whether engaging in book discussions with her parents, reading aloud to her siblings, or attending a book talk with Seamus McGraw on his nonfiction piece about the fracking debate. She is a role model and an endless resource of reading advice, especially for her younger sister. She was a member of our Reading Olympics team and read almost every book on the list. Her vocabulary in her written work benefits due to the ever-increasing amount of words at her disposal. She makes connections between the content in the classroom, current events, history, and what she has read. It is a pleasure seeing Sofia gain so much from reading and sharing it with her classmates. Currently, Sophia enjoys a wide range of reading genres, flipping constantly between fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. She never misses a National Geographic issue, and her goal is to read Dante's Divine Comedy.
