The Howler Vol. 25
March 15th, 2024
From the Principal
Greeting Grant Watts Community,
We want to warn you all that several leprechauns might lurk around the school grounds this weekend, as our kindergarteners have set up some very clever traps in hopes of catching one of the little tricksters. Please let us know if you see any… and may luck always be on your side!
Respectfully,
Principal Small
Lunch Bunch
All students are welcomed to join a lunch bunch with me sometime through the school year-this is an opportunity to connect and check in on how things are going for them. I have some structured social activities that we do together and socialize while they eat.
This month, we will be talking all about Cooperation! We all experience situations in which we must work with others to accomplish a goal or task in our lives. Whether we are working with friends or with someone new, we need tools to help us successfully navigate those situations and maintain healthy relationships. Great conversations can be had about how this looks at school and at home.
PLEASE, if your child or your family are experiencing challenges, please reach out to me for support.

Second Grade Families
It is less than one week until the concert! Please be sure that your student is practicing their music at home on the days they eat. If they have lines that they have been given, they need to practice their lines at home until they know them fully. If your student is not going to be able to attend the concert, please let me know ASAP because I may be considering your student for an instrument part and I need to know if they won’t be attending. twilliamson@scappoose.k12.or.us

The Grant Watts Parent Organization is organizing cookies for after the concert, so that students and families can have some time to fellowship and celebrate a great concert together. If you are interested in bringing some cookies, please follow this link:

So Much to Celebrate!
THIS WEEK IN THE LIBRARY!: March is Music in our Schools month! We are so lucky to have amazing music teachers throughout our entire district who inspire our students! We are so lucky to have Mrs. Williamson and Mr. Wilkins in our school–they help our brains grow in beautiful ways! If you see them around, please tell them thank you for all their hard work and check out our display of music books available in our library and we have more if you are interested in learning more about music, instruments and musicians!
This week we celebrated Harriet Tubman–her birthday was last weekend. We shared a story called Before She Was Harriet–Harriet was an inspirational woman with so many gifts–ask your children all the things she accomplished in her lifetime!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS–SPRING BOOK FAIRS ARE COMING: Because of the generosity of our entire Scappoose community, we have been able to host successful Scholastic Book Fairs and add 100s of new books to the shelves of all our elementary libraries!! THANK YOU! Book Fairs are the biggest source of funds to support updating our collections! Please mark your calendars for our spring fairs:
Warren Elementary ~ April 15-20
Otto Peterson ~ April 29-May 3
Grant Watts ~ May 20-24
Thank you!!
PLEASE LOOK FOR THOSE BOOKS AT HOME!: We currently have 79 overdue books and 49 lost books at Grants Watts–please remember that our library days are Thursday and Friday each week. With this many overdue and lost books, we have almost 130 books that are not on the shelves for others to check out. Please look for your books–they usually are not lost, they are just hiding so you just need to use your detective skills to remember where you had them last and please look on ALL the bookshelves in your house (or at grandma’s or the babysitter), they love to hide there! Thanks for your help!
Happy Reading ~ Mrs. Nudo
