National Random Acts of Kindness Day - Thursday, February 17th
This week we celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day.
In addition to being a spirit week, students will participate in a "Catching Kindness" activity.
Did a peer hold the door for you? Did you see someone pick up paper in the hall and throw it away? Did you hear someone say something kind to another person?
Students can submit a "Catching Kindness" entry for a peer and themselves to win a prize!
We will emphasize kindness throughout this week!
Humanity Relief Food and Clothing Drive- Collection boxes by the main doors
Marie Murphy is helping our 4th grade class!
Our Avoca Fourth Graders have planned a food and clothing drive for the Humanity Relief organization. This is a local group that serves refugees and homeless people in the Chicago area.
The food and clothing drive will run from February 9-February 28.
What can you do to help?
- Please go to our Amazon Wish List and order goods for donation. These will be delivered to the school.
- You can encourage friends, relatives, and neighbors to donate through our wish list or directly through the Humanity Relief website.
Thank you so much for your support!
Amy Anshell, Emily Bierbower, Jenna Freeman, and Janis Michael
Parking Lot Concerns
Please help!
Being the crossing guard at the end of the day has become increasingly dangerous. Both Mr. Maisel and I have almost been hit by cars multiple times. Most of the issues come from community members who believe Illinois is a short cut around Lake, and we recognize that.
How can you help?
-At 3:20 you cannot turn left into the lot when driving west. You must wait in the line like everyone else. This causes a backup to cars heading west and those cars in turn get frustrated and speed past.
-Do not try to enter and exit from the west bus entrance/exit.
-Do not pick up your child on Illinois. The entire process for exiting the lot takes 10-minutes. Your child entering your car on Illinois is not safe.
The Wilmette police are working with us on other solutions and will be more present to support the safety of our students.
**Many issues are seasonal and will resolve when we have 60-80 kids biking home again.
