Welcoming Ms. Lindsay Ginnetty as Guidance Counselor on 10/29/18
Lindsay Ginnetty is a graduate of Barnstable High School. She graduated from University of Massachuetts - Amherst, with a double major in Psychology and Communication. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston University. She is licensed as an Independent Clinical Social Worker through the state of MA. She also holds licences through DESE in School Adjustment Counseling and Guidance Counseling.
Lindsay is a proud Cape Codder. Born and raised here, she is passionate about this community. She is the proud mom of two young boys and in her free time, she is often at the hockey rink or the soccer field. After working in the field of human services for many years, she made a career change to education. For the past three years, she has worked in a local high school and has found her true passion with working with teenagers and helping them shape their future.
While leaving her current position has been incredibly hard, Lindsay is thrilled to be closer to home and to work in such an amazing school system. A fun fact is that at 14 years old, Lindsay's first job was at Hy-Line Cruises in Hyannis, and one of her first bosses was Jennifer Police!

Thirst Project Teaches Us About Global Water Crisis
On Tuesday, October 16th, the Monomoy Key Club hosted the Thirst Project at MRHS for an interactive presentation that taught us about the global water crisis and how we can END it! Students from Key Club and various classes learned about the clean water cause & how we can be involved in building real water projects all over the world. The Key Club is busy brainstorming a great fundraising idea to contribute to the building of a well.
We learned that children and parents walk an average of 3.75 miles per day just to find clean water. They fill jerry cans (which are only 5 gallons) with water and this water is used for cleaning, cooking, and drinking. To put that into perspective, an average American household uses 150 gallons of water per day. The presenters brought along a prop: a jerry can filled with 5 gallons of water weighing approximately 45 lbs. Students were asked to try to pick it up and imagine walking 3/75 miles per day! Most couldn't even imagine walking across the room with it.

ATTENTION GRADE 8 STUDENTS AND PARENTS!
THE PSAT for Grade 8 has been cancelled for this academic year. After having consulted with students, teachers and administration we have decided that this is in the best interest of our grade 8 students who have been heavily involved in MAP testing so far this year. In grades 9-11 students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT. College Board research demonstrates that students who take the PSAT on three different occasions have higher SAT scores than their less prepared counterparts.
If you have any questions regarding this message please do not hesitate to contact me at jbennett@monomoy.edu
Thank you,
Jonathan Bennett, School Counselor PSAT Coordinator
The PSAT- Grade 9 is on Wednesday 10/24

Athletics Weekly Summary
Week of: October 14th-October 19th
Written by: Caroline Howard
Well folks, I am happy to announce that another week of Shark sightings are upon us! And I bet that is the first time you have ever heard someone excited about that! So, find a spot on the couch and turn up the heat because here we go!
For our Homecoming weekend, Football started us off on Friday night against West Bridgewater. The Sharks were playing a strong game against the Wildcats under the lights, but ultimately, West Bridgewater moved in for the win 36-6. A great effort boys! A big Shark shoutout to the fan section and Harwich Fire for raising the American Flag for the whole game! It was quite a sight to see!
Homecoming weekend continued on Saturday before our athletes busted a move at the dance! To start us off, Boys Soccer beat Sturgis East in a downright brawl at 10 o’clock in the morning! Fans certainly needed their coffee for this game! As the rain started to sprinkle, the Sharks came in and took the victory! The final score was 3-1! This pushed the Boys Soccer team’s record to 5-5-2! Very impressive guys!
After Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer moved onto the turf and faced off against Rising Tide. As a fan at the game, it was very physical if I do say so myself! Rising Tide came out hungry and aggressive but hey, you cannot underestimate a Shark! As the final horn sounded, the scoreboard read 1-1! Nice job ladies!
The third team to play on Saturday was Field Hockey. Now, I don’t know what Mother Nature’s deal is with me, but as soon as I stepped on the turf, that’s right, the sky opened right up! The supposed “luck” of the Irish! Anyways, Field Hockey still battled off against Martha’s Vineyard, who were very geared up for the game! By the end of the first half, the game was still at a standstill of 0-0. But within the first few minutes of the second, Monomoy’s Amy Hinesley popped one in the net, giving the Sharks a lead! However, the Vineyarders came back and evened out the score, leaving the end result at a tie, 1-1. Great effort ladies!
Annnnnddddd we have a BIG Shark shoutout to Monomoy’s September Athletes of the Month, Steven Young and Abigail Higgins! Congrats on all of your hard work and dedication to your academics and athletics! Well done!
On Monday, Field Hockey played a nail-biting game against the Bishop Fenwick Crusaders. Another rainy day,(mmhhmmm), brought around a slippery game. However, since when do Sharks do bad in water? That’s right, yours truly popped one in the net! The final score 1-0! Nice job girls! Monday also brought around Boys Golf facing off against the Nauset Warriors. A close match at Captains Golf Course, but the Sharks took a tough loss 327-262. But a great effort by Nick Blute and Grady Howell! You’ll get them next time boys!
And that they did. On Tuesday, Boys Golf took a nice win over Cape Cod Academy 59-48! A solid effort by the whole team, and a nice round for Junior Captain Josh Poitras! Great job boys! Girls Soccer also played on Tuesday, and faced off against Martha’s Vineyard. The Sharks took a nice win over the Vineyarders 7-0! Impressive goals scored by Kelsey Olsen grabbing a hat trick just within the first half! Abby Higgins then followed Olsen in the goal scoring area, then Abby Wallace, Kate Gabri and Melissa Velasquez! Well folks, it seems we do not want to be on the wrong side of this soccer team! A very nice job ladies!
On Tuesday, Boys Soccer also faced off against Martha’s Vineyard. The Sharks played a hard fought game, but ultimately couldn’t hold on to the Vineyarders. The final score of the game was 2-0. A great team effort from the Sharks! Nice job! Field Hockey took a bus ride to Sandwich High School and played the Blue Knights. Boy, were those girls fast! Despite the majority of the Sharks not being able to feel their legs, we powered through. The Sharks took a tough loss however, with the final score reading 2-0. A solid effort by both of the Sharks Varsity goalies, Evelyn Sheeran and Caitlin Bouvier with deflecting the Knights big shots! Way to go girls!
Woah watch out! Here comes Cross Country! And it is no surprise to us that the Sharks took home the gold! Both Boys and Girls beat Cape Cod Academy on Tuesday! Great effort by the team as a whole, really keeping this well oiled machine RUNNING! Ha! Keep it up guys, nice job!
Wednesday brought around a match for Boys Golf against Martha’s Vineyard. The Boys tee-ed off at the beautiful Farm Neck Golf Club over on the Vineyard in a very windy match! Grady Howell again had a solid performance on the greens, but in the end Monomoy was defeated by the Vineyarders. The final score was Monomoy 62, Martha’s Vineyard 99. A solid effort boys!
But Monomoy Boys Golf came back on Thursday hungry for a win! As the team hit the tee box for their last match of the season, Cape Cod Tech should’ve been holding onto their hats! That’s right! Our Sharks defeated the Crusaders 92-77! Coach Anderson elaborating on how the Sharks, less than a month ago, had lost to the Crusaders by 20 points. Anderson also expressed how solid of a team effort the Boys Golf team showed in their last match and overall season. Nice season boys!
On Thursday we also had both Boys and Girls Soccer play against the Sturgis West teams. The Girls faced off against West away, but suffered a tough loss against the team 4-0. A tough field but a great team effort by the Sharks! Boys Soccer had their Senior Night game under the lights that night! Let me tell you, fans needed to bundle up for this game because it felt as if winter had come early folks! Despite the cold, Boys Soccer grabbed the win against Sturgis West 2-1! Great job boys, and a great effort by the teams 14 seniors!
As for Friday, we have games for Field Hockey and Football! Field Hockey is away at Barnstable under the lights! Grab your hot chocolate and your pink gear because it is a pink out! Come and support your Sharks at 6 on the dot! As for Football, the Sharks play an exciting away game against Keefe Tech in Framingham! Good luck to both teams!
Unfortunately, I have no other scores to report and will be signing off for tonight! But don’t worry, I am here for the long run! See you all next Friday for updates on all of your favorite fall sports teams! I’m Caroline Howard and that is this week's Friday Focus for Athletics! As always, Go Sharks!

Shark Shoutout...
A tremendous Shout Out must go to Amanda Schuermann for organizing a fantastic week of Spirit, Color, Fun, Laughs, and Joy. The pep rally was probably one of the best, if not the best, I've ever attended: the timing was perfect, the transitions were smooth, and everyone was engaged. We are so blessed to have Amanda! -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle
- Bill Burkhead's leadership, positive spirit, support, and creative ideas have also been incredibly important to our high school's success and growth into a terrific school. In particular, he has been very supportive of me and the things I have done and still do. Merging our two high schools was not easy but teachers (and counselors), our beautiful students, and Bill Burkhead have made it look easy. -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle
