BUSINESS INCubator CLASSES NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR 2024-25
Are you looking for a way to get involved in our school community?
Glenbard East’s Business Education Department is thrilled to be offering Business INCubator, a unique, innovative, entrepreneurial, business class for the 8th consecutive year and we would love for you to get involved!
Business INCubator brings creativity, innovation, and expert entrepreneurial guidance together in one course that allows students to jump-start their business ideas. In a 21st century classroom, our students work in small teams to develop a business idea and collaborate with community business experts and entrepreneurs who act as mentors and coaches, helping students bring their idea(s) to fruition. Students are taught by a team of coaches, mentors, and the classroom teacher who guide them through a hands-on, authentic, entrepreneurial experience. The class culminates with “Shark Tank” style pitches at the end of the year for potential funding for their business. We are looking for coaches and mentors to work with our students next school year.
Volunteer Roles
Coaches: Subject matter experts who teach a lesson, providing real-world context for a specific curricular area. INCubator provides lessons that align with your business expertise.
Time commitment: Typically, 3 mornings per lesson.
Mentors: Offer strategic guidance throughout the entire process for one team. The mentor role does not require specific business expertise, but rather someone whom students can bounce ideas off of. A mentor listens to their team’s ideas, probes with questions, and gives them room to experiment and even fail. Time commitment: Communicate with team on a weekly basis (in the classroom and/or online).
Board of Advisors: Act as judges for student Pitch Events.
Time Commitment: Three times during the year for the MVP, Semi Final and Final Pitch events.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in getting involved please contact Ellen Pieper at: ellen_pieper@glenbard.org or (630) 424-7123.
SUMMER READING
We pride ourselves on creating a community of readers and writers, and one important facet of that literary community is growing your personal reading practice during the summer. Remember, reading is a muscle; it needs continuous practice to stay strong! The English department encourages all incoming freshmen and future sophomores, juniors and seniors to read at least one book during the summer. However, with this amazing list of titles chosen to meet the needs and interests of our Glenbard East student community, we certainly encourage you to read as many titles as you like.
Beginning-of-the-year activities in all English classes will allow students myriad opportunities to share their thoughts and demonstrate understanding of the title(s) they read. In order to fully engage in these opportunities, you might find it beneficial to use post-it notes or make margin comments as you read with connections, questions, thoughts or to mark important sections. As our Glenbard East community includes the wonderful partnerships we have with our families, we also encourage parents/guardians to read alongside their students and engage in discussion.
All summer reading titles will be available to current students in the Sora app by mid June! Future GBE Rams will be able to access titles on their school-issued iPad as soon as they complete registration and receive their device in the mail. Additionally, all community libraries will be informed of our summer reading titles. Please keep an eye out on our library website and in your English classes to hear about your summer reading options. Information will come soon on checking out our summer reading website which houses the list of titles and all other necessary details.

We take pride in our school and pranks are unacceptable. Students have been reminded of these expectations throughout the year and most recently at our senior assembly.

"In my five (5) years as an educator here at East, we have experienced a large amount of turnover in the Dean's Office. This, understandably, has led to some inconsistencies, struggles, and frustrations from the teacher perspective for many of us. Braden has been TREMENDOUS over the last two years in supporting both students and staff members and is deserving of recognition for his efforts. Braden consistently, and in a timely manner, addresses referrals or concerns and is excellent at following up quickly with the teacher. Many of my colleagues agree that we feel greatly supported by Braden and the work that he does on a continual basis.
Braden is a constant presence in locations of high need and is always willing to help keep our school as safe and secure as he can. On numerous occasions this year, Braden has assisted with situations that didn't involve students assigned to him, yet he was still eager to help. I know that if I ever have a concern with a student or if I witness any sort of suspicious activity in the hallways, bathroom, etc., I can count on Braden. He has displayed critical thinking and problem solving in order to get to the bottom of situations.
Thank you, Braden, for a job well done!"
